Great Ped visit | Autism PDD

I took B to the dr for that yearly checkup. He was amazing. I did not recognize my own child. The only sound he made was when the stethescope touched his chest. He was smiling and happy. Instead of spinning the little stool the doc sits on the whole time, he climbed up on the examining table and sat there like a big boy. He let them weigh him with no fuss. Measured with no fuss. He weighed 46 pounds and was 3 foot 6 inches tall. The doctor said he was the healthiest child with autism he'd ever seen. Apparantly I'm doing something right. The boy will only eat pepperoni. That's it. So I supplement his diet with parents choice soy baby formula. This was okayed to continue today. He was making perfect eye contact. Very little stimming. He turned the water in the sink on for about a minute but didn't complain when I turned it off so his shirt would stay dry. The sad thing is what I think caused all of this neurotypical behavior. The whole way to the town we were going to, he was chanting "Bye Bye." When I tuned onto the main road into the town, he recognized the bridge you have to cross. He started saying, "Da Da." He thought we were going to see his dad because of that bridge. It's where we lived before the divorce, and I took him back a couple of times to visit his dad.  I told him no...we're going to see your doctor today. I wanted to cry. He's seen his dad twice in since December. Each time he was thrilled and had a great time with his dad. This is the one and only reason I allow my ex to contact me at all. The man has paid 100 bucks in child support since December.  I expected meltdown city after I told him we weren't going to see his dad, but it was the exact opposite. It was almost like he was NT. Made a few of those hopes and dreams that I had when he was born come back full force. Then when we got home he got into his rocking recliner and is still giving that thing hell stimming. OH well...it was nice for a little while...now back to real life. Rhosyn39293.3824189815Glad that the visit at least went ok...smooth sailing while in a confined space...I like that.

Hey -- he is rising to the occasion, and that is GOOD!

Remember, as Dr. Greenspan says, to consider both his bottom AND TOP performance capabilities!!!

This is very good news, about B's appt., indeed!

Glad that the visit went so smoothly!! That's great that he handled the appt so well.  That is heartbreaking about his father.

Sarah always surprised me the most when I was expecting the least...

Here's to hoping the unexpected last longer than the expected:)
