My son seams to be alot more sun sensitive latley,he reacts to bright sun as if it were burning his eyes out,he puts his arm or hands over his eyes as soon as he walks outside, and screams for his glasses.
do your kids have this?
Linda
Yes my son does this .We just try to make sure we have his sun glasses everytime we go outside. This just started this year,he never had a problem before.A baseball hat or sunglasses...definitely tinted windows. My son jack does this, we had to put a cover over the swing set or he won't go outside. Now when he is in the pool he doesn't mind it as much but we did put a huge umbrella up so he can have some shade in the pool as well. Oneday my son started screaming and crying, squeezing his eyes shut while we were driving till we went inside a building. When we left and got back to the car he started again and hyperventilating about the "bad sun" chasing our truck. I think its sensory because I took him to go get an eval from eye doc and everything normal. I think all you can do is give him shades when outside or maybe if you tint your windows or use a baby sun blocker for car? An OT might be able to help but not sure since my son hasnt started yet.My son has always had sensitive eyes and ears. He has a hard time adjusting from indoors to outdoors on a sunny day. Sunglasses help. He's finally old enough to keep them on. My son can also hear the electricity from our power lines. It doesn't bother him as much anymore, but he still tells me about it. Dd is VERY sensitive to the sun (wind too). She now willingly wears
Yes! When my allergies are acting up, it's actually painful to be in bright sunlight. I never go out without sunglasses. My son does'nt scream when he's outside but I know he is very sensitive to the sun b/c he won't look up at all until were in a shaded area.
My daughter has this and she will get hot if it's a bright sunny day even if it's 30-40 degrees with snow on the ground. She'll take her jacket off. Hot sunny days she'll faint like a southern bell. She has to be in the shade. She also tells me her eyes hurtToday I found out about something called "Irlen Syndrome." I didn't research it carefully, but noticed that it involves light/glare sensitivity and thought of you. Maybe it's worth looking into. I get the impression that it's more common among people with autism.
Good luck with everything.
I read up on it Norway Mom,Thanks for the Info I will keep it in mind as he gets older,Most problems with Irlen syndrome are while reading so hard to tell yet,But he does read some and seems to do Ok.
Thanks for thinking of us,Linda
I have never heard of this Irlen Syndrome - I will have to look into it.
Thank you!
My son is also very sensitive to the sun. When he was younger it was really bad. He is 11 now, he still has problems with it, but does not scream so much anymore. He gets over heated easily. He can't stand to be outside more than 20min at time.
Sunglasses help somewhat, but we also found out that he has migrain headaches and of course the glare of the sun can bring them on.
