Welcome to the board. Those are very common fears we all face. And with each age, they are new. But the people on this board will give you much advise and comfort. You are not alone.
Welcome Spot,
You are at the right place with all of us pretty much on the same page with much advice as well as fears but great support:)
We are glad you found us:)
Spot:Hi all....
I've been looking for a forum just like this one. I have a 4 year old son (will be 5 in August) who has been diagnosed with PDD-NOS. He is probably 18-24 months behind his peers, but he is verbal and he is making progress. We are working on potty training (he is pretty much trained with #1 during the day, but flat refuses to poop on the potty). There are days when I am filled with hope for him, and other times I despair when he can't master concepts or answer questions that I know a 3 year old could answer. My biggest fear is what the future holds for him...I worry about him being picked on at school, or not being able to be an independent adult.
Anyway, I'm glad I found a forum to be able to talk to other parents who have children with the same issues.

Welcome, Spot!
Yes, this is a very helpful and supportive board. We parents at one time or another, or NOW for me, have felt like you do! Andrew is 5 1/2, and sometimes I think that my house is the poop capital of the world!....Anywhere but in the potty
One day at a time... Blessings! Thanks everyone for responding. I'm sure that this forum will be a big help to us. Are there any parents out there with PDD-NOS teenagers? Part of the problem for me is the not knowing what the future holds for my Jack. If I can get a feel for what we need to be prepared for, then I feel I can handle anything, but this great unknown is stressful to me....no one in my family has ever had anything like this before. Thanks! Spot (Dad to almost 5 Jack w/PDD-NOS, possibly sensory issues) Welcome Spot. You're going to love it here. Lots of great advice and support! My son Anthony also has pdd-nos and will be 5 in September. There are a few parents on the board of older children so you will get to exchange information with them. What the future holds is hard for a lot of us. We have had many threads regarding that issue - it scares the crap out of all of us! BTW - Where do you live? We are in Chicago. Welcome Spot. I am not saying that is what your future will be like, but it could be. Our worry is what happens as the social demands get harder in the higher grades.
Welcome!
Hi spot:
You asked about adults with autism and my son is 35 years old with PDD/asperger. He has a college degree in computers but has never worked in the field. But he did hold a job for 2 years but lost it. The reason why I'll never know. At this moment he's finishing up a course at vochational rehabilitation in computer accounting. The course is self paced and most students finish later and he'll graduate the end of September. We're hopefull that this will be his ticket to employment and for him to be successful.
Also, I know someone who works at the Social Security Administration who has austim and he's a computer geek grad 13. He's writing a book about having austim but I'm not sure where he's on that one.
Any other questions just E-mail me.
