I'm sorry you and Matthew had to start out the first day of school that way! Just wanted you to know I relate. I hope his and your day go well. I'll be thinking of you. Paul's first day is next week. Yikes! Our bus won't even show up--never does for about a week or so.

OMG....I am so glad that he was not on that bus!!! Adam starts riding the bus next week so I am really nervous about that. If I have any major problems with it though I decided that I will just have to drive him this year. I'm so glad to hear that Matthew is ok and wasn't on that bus though. I'm also glad that he's getting a new bus driver. Keep us posted on the new driver and how that goes tomorrow. Take care,
Karrie
Thank goodness you got him off that bus. I think i believe in "divine intervention" now. Is it true they don't require car seats on buses, I worried about sending Logan on a bus next year when he turns 3. People tell me i should just send on the bus from the start. It won't be a long ride since it is in our town.

Yes my husband and I both were saying that it was "meant" for me to take Matthew off that bus this morning.
I could be wrong but I think that they passed a law (at least in my state:Florida) that there must be seat belts on school buses. But they don't require car seats. Matthew always rides in a booster seat in my car but just uses the seat belt on the bus. I had a difficult time the first week he rode the bus last year. I always said that I would drive him to school myself until he could drive himself cause I did not want him riding the bus. But things change and I had no choice. Matthew loved the bus from day one. I've never had a problem getting him to ride.
i am so glad that you got matthew off the bus i would have done the same thing. my son starts school in 4 weeks and he is riding a special ed bus with a car seat. i agree that older kids need to have seat belts also. what is the difference than riding in a bus or in their parents car. should be the same right.I'm glad you got your son off of the bus. I probably would have hit the driver and the monitor and ended up in trouble.

Hi all,
My Noah started riding a special ed school bus when he was two and we always had a plesant experience with it. I believe that since it was special ed, they liked to use car seats, booster seats or seatbelts to help keep the children contained since some of the kids could be hard to manage.
At the beginning of each year, they always asked me what device I wanted them to use for him. Never had a problem.
Also, it was harder on me than on Noah when he went on the bus so young. I too was tempted to drive him to school and so forth. But the facility said it would be easier on him to start out right from the beginning with the bus, since eventually they have to get used to it anyway. Turned out they were right. The crying only lasted about two days back then and never had another problem. He loves going on the bus ever since. Especially the last two years since he's been on the "big boy" bus, as he calls it.
Good luck to all the new bus riders and their moms!
I am so glad that you got Matthew off the bus. I, too, believe in divine intervention. I bet you or someoone that loves you are praying people. That driver sounded impaired, as in DUI. You might want to check-up on the bus moniter as well. She may have been under duress to lie. I've always been too scared to let Benjamin ride the bus. Fortunately, we live, I work on the same part of town as Benjamin's school. I am so glad that you are all O.K. Janet [QUOTE=tmikucki]I'm glad you got your son off of the bus. What a horrible way to start the school year! DOCUMENT IT!! I am also glad you decided to take Matthew off the bus and drive him instead! I hope none of the children were injured!
When Tyler was in preschool he did have a car seat he was required to ride in until he was of the legal age and size (4 years/40 pounds) I have heard that the age / weight law is changing - something like 6 years 60 pounds? Anyways AFTER he no longer had to be in a car seat there were seat belts but I had to sign a paper saying I wanted him in a seat belt because if in an accident and he was unable to get out of the seat belt and off the bus to safetly they didnt want held liable or vice versa if the driver was knocked out and he did get out of the seat belt and off the bus and wander away!
I hope your school year gets better from here!
