Playing peek-a-boo? Or not! | Autism PDD

My son would never play peek-a-boo or even let me sing to him so this sounds like a breakthrough in give and take play with your son. Keep encouraging this and if he can tolerate it add on a little variation occasionally to keep it interesting for him.

Good luck,  Merry

SOunds AWESOME
If he has never done this before that is just awesome
R LOVES peek a boo and will frequently initiate it as well - he is considered classically ASD though

My son still doesn't play peek-a-boo, but he enjoys watching me do it if I am VERY dramatic about it.

We haven't played in a while and yesterday he came up to me and kept covering his mouth with both hands and looking right at me. It took me a while to figure out what he wanted me to do, but I finally figured it out!

While playing I was trying to get him to cover his eyes, but still he would cover his mouth and not his eyes. At one point he covered the top of his head rather than his eyes....Is this common? I've tried to cover his eyes for him, but he's not going for that!

Do you kids play peek-a-boo with you?

Tom loves playing peekaboo. I should point out that I asked on another forum if this meant he couldn't be on the spectrum (this is before his diagnosis) and was told by the mum of a ten year old girl who would be classed by many as lowfunctioning autistic (and no, I don't like categorising like this but it's to explain she's mostly non verbal, difficulties communicating, lots of sensory difficulties and damned smart to boot) that her daughter loves playing peekaboo.

My son never played peek-a-boo. He would watch his therapists or me but
did not reciprocate. He however loves playing hide and seek. It took a while
to teach him at three. By four he was covering his eyes and counting to 10
and actively looking. So I do not know if he lacked skills when he was
younger or he just was not interested.
