Baking Soda for Aggression | Autism PDD

Share

I have a 10 yr very aggressive ASD son...he has been on Risperdal, Focalin and Clonidine for a number of years...his liver is doing well, so we weaned him off of everything...I decided to try baking soda and water and couldn't believe that it stopped the massive hitting!!! I guess some kids have an acidic problem and this can cause behavioral problems!!

Wow!

Some use Epsom Salts, Melatonin (for sleep), Gaba, Taurine to calm them down.

I've posted this before, but I'll post it again:
Just a little side note b/c most people think that Baking Soda couldn't hurt someone - IT IS POSSIBLE TO OVERDOSE ON BAKING SODA - it decreases the level of potassium in your body and by throwing up it just makes that worse. I just read a story about a man w/ indigestion who drank it and he threw up and landed himself in the ER. BE CAREFUL is all I am saying. I would suggest bloodwork and a doctor consultation before you try something like this.

I have never heard of this, I will have to look into that.  Although my boys are not really aggressive, they do suffer from a great deal of anxiety.

I would be curious to know how much baking soda to use and how often during the day.

I take my boys to an osteopath who is a DAN and herbalist and he has prescribed a plan that has helped them so much...He noticed that my son's liver was very congested...I guess many ASD kids have congested livers that are caused by toxins and meds...my son's got very congested and the toxins were sent up to the brain causing severe sedation and the inability to speak and use the toilet...when I used the baking soda, the aggression really went down, I guess this was his way of expressing that he had pain in his stomache...We are taking several liver detoxers and a veggie powder (Juva Power) that is an acid-binder (I use in acidic foods)...he also has severe anxiety that we use essential oils to help relax him (peace and calming, valor and highest potential)...I get these from Young Living.us....I have decided to stop using the baking soda since the Juva Power seems to do the trick, but I was using it up to 5x/day (1/8 tap in some water)...I was hearing about sodium and potassium issues with this...someone mentioned to me that potassium bicarbonate was an alternate choice!!!

I hope this helps!!!Thanks - this is all great info.  I have copied it all down.  By the way what is a DAN?
