any time my 5 years old son goes true tantrum, not eathing, crying, and etc
my therapist tells me he is going through development jump. he want to do better and since he is not use to new development he does his old habits. any of your kids do same thing? also he will speak on and off. he talks constantly and ask for things then he stop for few weeks. he only talks with words not to many sentences yet.
There is an author called Dr. Terry Brazelton who writes a weekly newspaper column every week that most papers carry. He also has written several parenting books, two of which are called Touchpoints. One is for kids 0-3, then 4-6.
He says that even babies do odd things when they are about to reach and accomplish a "touchpoint". Your chid have have slept all night long for months, but suddenly start waking up every 2 1/2 hours. You'll find the baby in his crib, on his hands and knees, half asleep, and crying. The baby's body is "obsessed" with learning to crawl, and its so intense that it is pulling him up out of his sleep cycles.
This seeming drop in skills (like no longer sleeping through the night) is just temporary. Once the baby learns to crawl, he's fine again. Until he starts trying to pull up into a standing position! Then it starts again.
These regressions are fine as long as they don't linger, for say maybe a couple months. The Brazelton books are my favorite in the universe! Check them out!
In our case that showed to be very true.
Every time that Aiden had some behavioral issues or him simply having a terrible week, something very huge was on the way - progress.
Sarah would have huge tantrums and meltdowns before mastering programs that were difficult..it almost made them tolerable.
