Worried about vacation... | Autism PDD

Share

We are leaving on Sunday for two weeks down the shore (the beach for those of you not from NJ).  Last year ds loved the water and the sand and had a blast. He learned to walk on the beach. This year I am not sure what to expect. We plan on going down early in the moring and late in the afternoon so that he is not in the heat of the day because the heat really makes him tired.  The house has central air.

This past year has been rough with him being in and out of the hosptial for seizures. We rented the house 2 weeks before he got sick in Feb. He was diagnosed in April with SID and PDD-NOS.  We are going with my BIL and SIL (a nurse) and ds's favorite extended family members.  The past few weeks he has been doing really well with therapy and seems to be happier.  He is a lot more like his old self.

Since we only live about 40 minutes from the shore we are coming back to do some therapy just 4 days out of the two weeks.  He will be getting half of his sessions because I didn't want him to regress or forget his therapist or have to schedule so many make-ups. His schedule is already so tight and NJ is implementing its cost share starting in Aug. and make-ups will cost us a fortune. He also has his follow-up with his neurologist one of the days that we will be home.  I know all of this is silly but I just hope that we have a good time and that he especially has a good time.  We all need a little R+R.  Thanks for listen to me whine.

I will miss reading the board.

Oh my goodness!  It is illegal in 48 states to use the word "worried" and "vacation" in the same sentence!  No worries, girlfriend!

Have a wonderful time!  Bring a portable DVD player if there's none in the beach house, and bring along a Backyardigans movie about the beach or something.  When I'm prepping for vacation, I pull out the books and movies, or even old magazines with great photos to have my sons look at.  It gears them up, but also reminds them of what to expect.

Hey, are you packing flashlights and LOTS of batteries?  My boys love putting on their rubber rain boots, carrying buckets, and going out to look for crabs at night.  We walk up and down the beach in the dark with that cool breeze and lulling sound of ocean waves.  They sleep like drunken pirates!

Have fun!

Have a wonderful time and try to relax and enjoy the free time..it goes by fast! Hope your son has a great time!

Hi Paula...hope you have a great time on your vacation...and how lucky that your SIL is a nurse...bet that takes a load off!!  I'm sure DS will have a great time...everyone needs and deserves a break once in awhile, especially our hard working children!!!

Be sure to let us know how it went and will miss you on the boards!!

ENJOY-ENJOY-ENJOY!!!!
