Wonderful news:) Glad you are back! I havent had Sarah to a dev. pediatrician in almost 2 years...I really need to take her back and see what he thinks of her now:) Love to hear positive news!!

I didn't check in much because, honestly, it was a nice vacation from thinking about autism all the time.

Although, we did take Anthony to see a developmental pediatrician specializing in Autism.  We were there for about 3 hours and he tolerated all their tests and questions very well as he always does.  They were very, very upbeat about his future.  The doctor told me he recently saw an 18 year old patient he has provided services for since the patient was a toddler.  He said this boy was alot like Anthony was when Anthony was 3 and alot like Anthony is at the age Anthony is now (4.10).  He said this boy's 2 biggest concerns in life were did somebody already ask the girl that he wanted to ask to prom and will the trucks cut him off on the highway when he's driving to his new college.  The doctor said that he can't predict the future but his opinion, at this time, is that Anthony will go to college, hold a job, have a social life etc.  He'll always be a little quirky but he thinks he'll do well.  He was pleased with the programs we had in place

He wants to see him again in 9 months to a year (before kindergarten).  He said he wouldn't change his dx now.  I told him I didn't think his dx would ever change.  He said he could see his dx changing in a year or two.  I asked what it could change to, Aspergers, Autism, etc.  He said no, he was thinking more along the lines of Anthony losing his dx completely.

So, it gives me alot to think about.  I'm cautiously optimistic.

mamajot39290.4762847222Welcome back!  Glad to hear the pediatrician gave you such a positive prognosis.

MJ, wow - that's awesome to hear, especially since the girls and Anthony seem to have a similar developmental history and are pretty much the same age (iirc).  I wish I could pay a visit to that ped. and hear something like that!

You must feel very hopeful right now.  Oh, and welcome back.  I exiled myself from the board, too - but I could only manage to stay away for about 12 hours

Wow -- nice MD appt.!
