teaching kids reading and writting | Autism PDD

I'm assuming your child has an IEP.  If the pre-K doesn't have early literacy goals for the class, then you would probably have to argue about getting them into the IEP.  I personally think our job as parents is to support the school and reinforce school lessons at home -- not let the school get away with us doing the job for them or paying for an outsider to do their job.

Good luck with everything.

do they teach our kids read and write when they go to school, or we have to get special therapist to teach them that. my ds is pre k now he recognize the words i think but since he is not talking in sentences yet i tought may be i wait little bit.ETA: you might want to get him to start cutting with scissors too and gluing with a glue stick:) We taught our son to read and write before Kindergarten to find out what
style of teaching worked best for him. One think I did notice, it did take a
while for him to get the proper pencil grip. It would not hurt if you worked
on that ahead of time. I would also encourage your child to draw/color
simple shapes. If you think your child will have difficulty in this area, I would
contact your school district for Speech and language services.

My daughter just finished kindergarten and by graduation your child will be expected to know how to write upper and lower case letters correctly on a writing tablet and sight read at least 50 words..they work on them daily and each week they concentrate on one letter at a time so I wouldnt worry too much..if your child is reading already he is already ahead of the game..I would get a magna doodle and practice handwriting..it is a hard skill for some ASD kids~hands may  tire easily.

The school here teaches modern letters instead of danelian(?) so make sure you are not teaching him differently than the school or it will be hard to undo:)

Good luck:)
