My son used to do that a lot, but it has gotten better as he has gotten older (he's 12 now). He used to have no empathy when he was a preschooler....but after much reinforcement and teaching, we have seen drastic improvement. jeeze, ya i did that on occasion when i was younger, as i aged, it stopped, i laugh when appropriate, and have done so as long as i can remeber, many years now...
I remember something quite chilling, and itll sound very bizzar, happened when i was about 10 or so, and whenever i think about it i get such a strange feeling, anyways, i saw a picture of, beleive it or not albert einstine, and cracked up histaricly, i dont know why, my parents wanted to know what was soo funny and were confused, later, a few years later, i read an article about him possiblely having AS and it sent chills down my spine for whatever reason, that is the only time i remember laughing inappropriatly, my parents say their were many others prior, i dont remember them. I think that memory will stick with me till the day i die. I wish i knew why, hehe.
as they age, they will improve usually.
I wish i had an answer as well, my 3 year old has always just spontaneously laughed, me and my mom say it is because the angels did something funny I beleive the term for this is "disinhibition" It has to do with being unable to
regulate your behavior in a social way. It is all part of not recognizing social
norms. They simply resopnd to their feelings as they have them.
That's the definition. I'm not sure exactly if that is the case with our ASD
kids, but it can happen because of brain damage, drug effects etc. That's all
I know.
Wish I could help some. My dd does this as well, although she is only 3
now, I'm hoping we find something to help her with this. Do you see a
psychologist? They may offer some suggestions. For us, we are making
social stories for our daughter. Our dd is VERY visual, and we are having
some success from the stories as well as other visual cues & PECS. If you
search social stories on this forum, you'lll find lots of links (most from
NorwayMom) for examples & stories. Good luck.
My daughter has a problem with inappropriate laughing. She always laughs at the wrong time. She has been laughing inappropriate since 2 yrs old and now 6 yrs old. Any advice?
