Tommorow is Ryan's IEP meeting and Im so nervous. We had his current program evaluated by 3 experts, all who reccomended pretty major changes to his program. We have sent a report with our requests and the meeting will be the first opportunity we have to hash it out.
I just hate that the relationship between parents and a child study team needs to be so contentous- to them, an education is all about $$$. Im typically not a confrontational person, but my son is my whole heart and i will adovcate for him forever until I can be sure that he is being provided an education that is wholly appropriate and that will address his needs.
Ryan's school is starting an "autism" program next year, which is great in theory, but I dont believe the way its currently set up he'll have 1:1 support (which he needs) and we want them to fund his home program as well, which is expensive, but necessary in order for him to learn to generalize skills. My hunch is that the CST will show up at the meeting all excited to tell us about their new program, but we'll surely be asking for more than it provides. I dont know anything about it yet, but unless its an ABA based curriculum with daily data collection, it will not be suitable in my opinion.
Ill let you all know how it goes. Send me good vibes tommorow at 11am EST :)
Thanks!
Best of luck. Be polite but stand firm. You know what is best for your son
