I liked it. I was surprised that someone who wasn't in the spectrum
himself could understand so much about Autism. I wonder if the author
has someone close to him in the spectrum.
I also felt though that he got some of it wrong. It couldn't be any
worse than the movie Mercury Rising. Now that I thought missed the mark
sooo much.
I read it and sort of enjoyed it, though I pray to God that this isn't
what Luke is like! Luke doesn't mind being touched by people, so
at least in part he's different from the main character. I found
the story from the perspective of an autistic teen very creative,
however.
I read it. Found it interesting, but couldn't relate to it as far as my DS is
concerned. This was not an Asperger's boy. So much of it was
heartbreaking and difficult for me to read. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time by
Mark Haddon
I just finished reading it. Has anyone else read it? Wahat did you think?
My husband and son with aspergers read it and liked it......I
haven't had time to read a whole book in ages! one of these days
I'll get to it!
Since every person with aspergers is still unique, your child may not
share every aspect as another with the same dx.
I loved this book! It's funny, sad, inciteful about both the boy and his parents, and very empathetic.
As it happens, I heard the interview of the author on National Public Radio weeks before my son was diagnosed with AS. At the time, I thought that the book just sounded really interesting. After the diagnosis, I found the book and just finished reading it two days ago. If you are interested you can hear the interview with Mark Haddon at:http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.phpstoryId=4707767
He is quite a remarkable young man. If there were more people in the world like Haddon, we would already have a cure for Autism and Asperger's!
If memory serves me right, I think the author worked with autistic children, that's how he is so keenly aware of the day to day challenges of a child on the spectrum.I just read this book about a week ago and really enjoyed it. I also remember reading on the back cover that the author worked with children with autism. I'm sure that there are children similar to Christopher in the book seeing as the spectrum is so very large. It was interesting to read the rationalizations that he made throughout the book, and to hear his thoughts on things like metaphors and sarcasm that were lost on him.
