Unless he's had a change in diet (for example a lot of juice due to warm weather) or had antibiotics that changed the bacterial flora in his intestines, it seems most likely to be a virus or bacteria.
I swear by the book "Taking Care of Your Child" by Pantell, Fries and Vickery. It has good explanations about symptoms and illnesses, plus flow charts for deciding when you need to see a doctor.
For diarrhea the flow chart says:
Is the child taking any medications? (If yes, call doctor).
Is there blood in the stools or severe abdominal pain (If yes, see doctor now).
Has diarrhea persisted beyond 5 days without improvement (If yes, see doctor today).
Hi all. Your experienced opinions are needed.
My ASD DS has never had and gut problems. He is not on a special diet, although I am seriously considering it. For the last week to 10 days he has had the most WICKED (sorry I am in MA geeze I don't know maybe you should check with DR. Is he eating anything different? Just bumping this because I am of no help.
When you say 'wicked' does that mean a strong smell in that you actually have to leave the room to catch a breath? Does he poop a lot?
Something you might want to look into is yeast overgrowth. You can give him probiotics and if you are up to it even try digestive enzymes (your not suppose to give it at the same time as the probiotics).
IT could be diet..milk is a big culprit..is he on any meds? We did the GFCF diet and saw little improvements but those parents that had kids with issues similiar to what you are describing saw HUGE progress..I would take him to doctor and check him out...Sarah had high yeast but no bowels were fine..but some kids get exactly what you describe. Good luck!Wicked meaning a lot, runny, smelly, dark.
