BUMPING! That is absolutely awesome. Isn't it the best when something suprisingly exceeds your expectations? Keep us posted!Oh, man how cool! What a wonderful person he sounds like!don't you love when thing work out!!!
We will just have to live vicariously through you!!
...we want all the poop..hmmm I mean the scoop..details..new stuff we dont know! Ask him about girls too..you can mentioned Sarah if you want..I would love to know his opinion! I have to log off--paper due!! But, seriously--give me some burning
questions to ask!I have been looking around (with not much luck) for a therapist who is
familiar with asperger's syndrome to help me deal with both stresses as a
parent, as well as help me navigate my ongoing relationship with my
son's father.(unofficially dx'd by ME!
)
So after another exhaustive internet search, I found this one name
coming up over and over. I couldn't tell if he was a medical doctor, a
psychaitrist, or what-- It sounded as if he had good credentials, and at
one point it mentioned he saw AS adults as patients as well. I called him
thinking he might at least have references or resources to share. It's
sunday, so I expected to leave a message--especially since the prefix on
his # usually denotes a UCLA campus phone (I know because I went
there...) But he answered the phone, and I had a very pleasant
conversation with someone who it turns out is one of the pioneering
psychaitrists in the field of autism. He co-wrote the first original dx in
the DSM, and has been researching autism fo over 50 years. He and his
wife developed the new comprehensive Asperger's screening test for
adults, after noticing mild autisitc traits in parents of children in his
clinic. He is one of the guys who is responsible for the broadened and
enlightened understanding we have today of autism as a spectrum
disorder. He stareted the Asperger's clinic at UCLA.He's got a new book
out with a foreward by Tony attwood. Yeah, I could go on. I was sort of
stunned at his expertise.
SO. He's retired from the clinic, but still sees some people at his home in
Bel-Air. He's getting some resources together for me, and I asked if I
could possibly get a formal consult with him. I'm going to visit him on
Wed afternoon at his home. I'm bringing all aof J's files with me for him
to look over, and discussing my ex's symptoms, but mostly he invited me
to MAKE A LIST OF ALL THE UNANSWERED QUESTIONS I HAD ABOUT
AUTISM, so he could address them all!!
How crazy is that?
OMG!!! That is awesome!! You HAVE to let us know how this thing goes....
