Welcome to the family!! Welcome to the board, lots of information here.

Welcome to the board, If you are like most of us, you will find this place addicting. The people here are absolutely wonderful.

Welcome Lesli:) Glad you found us:)Hello my name is Lesli i live in Las Vegas Nevada. I have a 4 1/2 (almost 5, in September)  year old son with Autism and Im sure you guys probably know how it affects me probably somewhat similar to how it affects you. my son recently started school, in April actually, at the local school district. Special Education (of course) for autism.  I feel very priveleged that his teacher is an excellent one and she and her assistant and their staff have made a huge huge difference in my son.  And he was just diagnosed in January at the age of 4 1/2 which is very late according to many sources.  Early Intervention shows the best results from what I gather and what they mean by early is 2 and 3 years old so having him diagnosed at 4 1/2 not only made me feel incredibly ignorant for not knowing earlier but it made me feel like it was too late and there is no hope .  But I was very wrong. You see even though physically he is 4 1/2 years old he was still mentally about 1 1/2 - 2 years old according to the evaluation of a six-member team at the school district .  So for me and him it still was early intervention and his teacher is an amazing woman she has changed my son's vocabulary from maybe 50-75 words to I cant even count anymore , also he speaks many 4-7 word sentances now too and 3 of my sons 5 classmates who were completely non-verbal are now speaking she has showed me a few tricks that I cant beleive actually work I almost fainted when it was Family day at school I could not beleive some of the things these teachers were getting my son to do .   If anyone wants to know what her teacher does in particular to help or begin the child with speaking let me know .   Thanks Lesli Young SinCityGoddess@yahoo.comWelcome aboard.

Actually, I'm pretty sure it affects you somewhat similar to the way it affects the people *around* me.

Welcome to the board, I also live in Las Vegas If you don't mind me asking what school is your child going to? Right now I'm having problems with the school and teachers at my son's school right now. In August I'm not sure where he will be going but I know he wont be staying where he's at now. Sounds like you've found a wonderful teacher and school.Mostly ABA but they  have this sensory integration program that seems
to be working also .   Another neat thing which I dont know how they
figured this out.  But all of the 6 kids in the class love to hear echoes/
(not like the kind of echo they do with repeating the phrases over
and over but real echoes.) Like I know everytime I walk into like a
Super-Walmart or the front door of a Costco or something my son he will
always scream in different tones ( not like meltdown type of scream but ya
know) or just like say stuff really loud  right in the front where it
echoes.   She bought this echoeing microphone toy thing from walmart and
anything she says into that microphone he will repeat her .   ITS
CRAZY
