CUT OFF | Autism PDD

Thanks Paula ,we only have Totally Integrated Schools here in NewBrunswick ,No Special schools ,or classes,All Autistic Kids are Mainstreamed, Its just a Bad system all Around,There is OT and PT through school, also speech ,But long waiting lists mean only the most severe Kids get any help.

There are TA's if you fight for them but they do not require any training, only a 1 year early childhood diploma.

There are a few floating around with ABA training ,Most do not have it.

I just received my letter stating that on Aug 31 my son will be cut off from all gov funding,In Our Province, Autism is only covered until Age 6.

No more ABA ,or equipment, or clinical supervisor ect..,for Zach that is OK,but what About the Other Kids ,Zach will start school with a full time Aid,he could use OT and he has been referred but will have to wait due to staffing shortages

There is a big Fight going on to get Autism treatments covered through our Country's Medicare system ,but for now it is not,I feel so bad for my friends who's kids desperately need ABA.

Of course, I will Join the Fight and do all I can .

It seems that it's always the weakest in society that get neglected.  Here are some things I posted several weeks back on autism in Canada:

Remember comedian Eugene Levy from SCTV and as the dad in American Pie?  He has a relative (cousin or cousin's son, depending on the source) with autism.  He is helping Senator Jim Munson draw attention to the need for a National Autism Strategy.

He says "I feel extremely passionate about the need for a National Autism Strategy. Canada is blessed in so many ways but somehow some of our most vulnerable citizens are being wrongfully neglected. It is time to address this wrong and provide these individuals with the same access to medically necessary treatment that the rest of us enjoy throughout our lifetimes under our country's allegedly universal health care system."

Linda,
That is terrrible.  I am so sorry to hear this. What kind of services do they get in school or are they just in regular education programs?
