I'm so happy for you! Friends are good to have, and so is the wider network of autism parents, like the doctor you mentioned. It's great that we help each other, isn't it.
I don't have any regrets about things I could have asked, but regret not having been better prepared to answer their questions. Since you belong to this group and have probably seen the various diagnostic checklists, you'll be better prepared than I was.
Good luck with everything.
At last I have managed to get an appointment with one of the leading child psycologists (sp?) in my state, I am sooo excited!
I was given her number by a friend of mine who was talking to HER gp abt what a friend could do if they were worried abt autism. That doctor has a son who is severly affected and asked what flags this child was showing to make them worried abt autism. My friend explained my son, without mentioning names and her gp was immediately concerned. She gave the number for her son's psycologist and I rang it today!!
The gp had been talking abt this patient of hers that had a friend who was worried and as a result the psycologist has rearranged her appointment book to fit me in on a saturday afternoon in 2 months.
Finally I may have some start towards answers!
So now is there anything that you wish you had asked in that first appointment that you didn't? Is there anything that I SHOULD ask/find out abt?
OMG, that WONDERFUL!! Congrats, I am very happy that you were able to get someone's attention on this. You should start now, by writing down every question that pops in your mind between now and then. That way, when the time comes, you won't leave anything asked/unanswered. Good luck to you and your dear child, please keep us posted.ok so update, just been called by the receptionist of the psycologist. They managed to speed things up again and got me an appointment for the fourth of August!!!!!!!
I'm so nervous, I want a dx but I don't want him to be ill.
Keep us posted:)
