lotsa pasta | Autism PDD

my dd only eats oatmeal for breakfast. has for over a year. There isn't all that much else she will eat and I have been known to give her oatmeal for dinner as well on more than one occasion (the only fruit she will eat is Gerber's baby food in the plastic cups and sometimes a banana and the only vegetable to ever graceher lips is corn from a can).

Well, suddenly out of nowhere a few weeks back, she suddenly started eating pasta for the first time. It has to be cold and plain, absolutely nothing on it. What could be easier? But she wants it for EVERY lunch and EVERY dinner. I've been giving it to her because, well, because she's ASKING for it and EATING it!!!!!

i hope to be a source of help to you all as i hope that you will be able to help me with some of my ISSUES

Sallys,

Have you tried the tricolor pastas? They are vegtable based I think. Tj is stuck on cheerios and baked potatoes. He will eat pasta but only spagetti. I have tried different shapes but he does not do as well. MY only worry is a source of protien. TJ will eat peanut butter and yogurt on good days. I would just keep trying different foods along with the pasta-at least she is eating something. I dont think I would worry much about just eating just pasta for a while but I am not sure about long term. I have found that if I offer new foods once in awhile he will try some sometimes-thats how I got him to eat green beans and brocolli- he is on a green kick! Good luck!

Kathy, I have tried the tri-color pasta. DD just eats the white ones, and ignores the red and greenI hate to mention this, sally, and please don't get angry at me ... but have you thought about getting your dd tested for food allergies?  "They" say that those with food allergies will self-limit their food intake.  Luke was tested last week and was positive for allergies to dairy, soy, eggs, and yeast.  We didn't get him tested be/c of his PDD dx, but now that we know how many things he's allergic to, I'm completely aghast and SO THANKFUL that we looked into it!  (Soy is in almost everything store bought.)  The doctor (NOT a DAN doctor ... just a regular ENT) believes that the change in Luke's diet will significantly help his demeanor.  Anyway, it's just a suggestion.  The test wasn't fun ... 8 needle sticks in his arm, followed by another 5 so they could see just HOW allergic he was to those things.  They put a lidocaine cream on his arm so it wasn't too painful, but he SCREAMED bloody murder anyway.

Good luck.
Kellie
