Meds for parents and S...E...X... | Autism PDD

Okay, someone pm'd me and todl me to post this as a new topic -

For those of you on antidepressants - which are many as life with these ASD kiddos can be very trying - do ALL antidepressants casue - um - for lack of better word - libido 'issues'?

Is there anything that helps?

I would assume that ALL people are different and react differently and to different degrees.

Maybe I'm a lucky one???

S.E.X. huh?? and parts are atrophied by now.....and sleep is being better but I wont:PPP

I was going to make a joke involving  words like:

S.E.X. huh?? and parts are atrophied by now.....and sleep is being better but I wont:PPP

[/QUOTE]

LMAO  When we had newborns, my closest friend and I used to joke that "sleep is
the new sex"

But honestly, I take meds, and although I think my libido went down
initially, my mood went up considerably--which is also conducive to more
S. E. X. (btw us, I was happy my libido went down as I wasn't so 'into' my
hubby at the time....wow, that's a lot of disclosure!)

I have no problem with um, er, "finishing the job" either, but I am now
single and NOT dating--so I can't give you any real up to date info....my
life is pretty uneventful these days.

Can i guess who asked you to post this??

It may be a dosage issue. Mystery poster should ask their dr. to start
them at a low dose and gradually increase it, to see if they can find that
"fine balance" btw bad sex and depressive feelings.

good luck!

By the way, I was diagnosed with PMDD about 5 years ago and prescribed a low dosage of Zoloft. If anything, my libido went up instead of down, much to DH's glee.   WOW -- you mean you have NO KIDS in bed between you???I am on paxil and before i started it i was never in the mood i think it was the depressionbut now that i have been on it for 5 weeks i see my self getting better not so depressed and wanting to spend time with my hubby and have SEX. he also has seen this change which he is very happy with.. I give credit to the meds.. I am so happy i tried them.. I feel like a new person..  Someday when I get some time to date again, I will let you know I think I've been on every anti-D there is, and some of them have had a
seriously bad impact in the bedroom. Side effects do generally lessen with
time... but I have come off at least 1 because I just couldn't live with never,
um finishing, no matter how close I was. Our 2 year old slept all night in
her own bed one night this week, makes twice in her whole life lol I keep
telling myself it doesn't last forever...

Thanks for this LOL funny thread!

I prefer not to disclose too much here..., but I can relate to the the "star in the east" and "immaculate conception" comments

Some antidepressants like Prozac and Lexapro are known to cause sexual issues.  They can affect not only your sex drive but also your ability to reach...um...O-R-G-A-S-M.

I was on antidepressants for 6 years and found that my libido wasn't the only thing that was dulled.  While meds may lessen feelings of sadness and hopelessness, they also can make it harder to experience extreme happiness.  That's one major reason I quit them.  Now I take the good with the bad and keep in mind that what goes down must come back up again, my mood included.

I'm not on meds, but just had to peek in and smile with y'all...Ya'll absolutely crack me up!!  I did try Wellbutrin for about a year, but really didn't notice anything, even depression wise.  It was like aspirin, so I dumped it. I've heard that its the least likely to make you feel prudish, though.

With two little kids 2 years apart and a recent 8 month stretch of co-sleeping with mommy (don't ask!), we often ask each other WHEN???  Please God, WHEN?????  And then of course, we pass out simultaneously. Um, does that count?

Just got over the stomach flu and somebody asked DH if I could be on the nest.  We both cracked up and said yeah, but only if there's a star in the east!

LEANN says: somebody asked DH if I could be on the nest.  We both cracked up and said yeah, but only if there's a star in the east!

LOL!

Too true! My hubby and I do not even sleep in the same bed as my ds comes to bed in the middle of the night EVERY night. He is the best form of birth control ever!

Hahahahahaha.... Every time a Dr. asks me if I could be pregnant, my response is "Only if you believe I could be the recipient of an immaculate conception."  LOL  Absolutely NOTHING going on in my bedroom.... by the time I get my three year old to sleep my husbands snoring so loud the neighbors can hear him
