anyone take trilrptal? | Autism PDD

When Mason was on trileptal he was having complex partial with 2nd generalization...

he now has absence seizure and tonic clonic, along with the complex partial...I don't think it would be a good med to take with absence seizures because I'm pretty sure that is a generalized seizure...and that was what I was told could actually cause more seizures.

I'm thinking now that you told me you are worried about seizures it might be a good idea to find out more!  I know how horrible the long term EEG's can be, but I can give you some good tips if it should come to that.  I really think the only thing they can do for absence seizures is to catch the episode on an EEG and be sure that's what it is...that's what they had to do for us...but it was based on my report of him having many, many staring spells a day.

I would definitely keep an eye on what you think are seizures in your son...and definitely if you see a sudden increase, call the doctor right away...it could be the meds causing them...I know how weird it sounds that an anti-seizure med can cause seizures, but that's why they have to have so many meds to choose from...because every seizure needs to be treated differently.

If you have any more questions, please feel free to PM me...we have been through quite a lot over the last 3 years pertaining to seizures.

Take care!

emerald_52139279.9225694444My ds is going to start trileptal and I was wondering if anyone has any experoences with this medication?(antis eizure med with offlabel use for mood)Thanks!

Unless of course the meds were really helping the behavior too and once he was taken off it the behaviors got worse...I sometimes wonder that myself.

As far as side effects go it was pretty much standard...I remember him being a little more tired in the beginning but he adjusted to that pretty quickly...we did have to adjust the doseage a bit because it would seem that he had "medicine head" quite a bit in the beginning and they had to lower the doseage...he seemed kind of dazed all day...once we lowered it, it definitely got better.

If you are using it for seizures I am probably not the hope you want...it didn't work for us and honestly the little bit of control that we did see only lasted a few months before we quit and were on to a new med.

I did ask about using it again as a behavior med because my son now needs those too and we actually can't go back because they said something about it only works for one type of seizure and now Mason has different types of seizures and this med could actually cause him to have more seizures.

Sorry, probably not much help...but that was our experience with Trileptal.

LOL...yeah, I probably thought he had a lot back in the day too!!

Good luck with the meds...if you see anything that concerns you...just call the doctor!  I call all time when it comes to his meds...I know I'm being a pain in the A$$, but I honestly don't care!!

Good luck and keep us posted to how it's going!!

Take care!
