Starting SPED Summer School Tomorrowhe's in the same classroom he was during the year with the same kids and teachers. Easy transistion there! I think it's just ridiculous that ESY is only 4 weeks long, though. REALLY hard on a single parent... He does get continued services as well, OT, ST, APE, etc. But we have almost 7 weeks of summer before he goes back to school! It's quite stressful. He's going to attend a daycamp for kids age 3-8 mild to moderate ASD in august, but being a first timer to all this daycamp hoopla, I had no idea how far in advance you had to sign up, so I only got him in 2 days a week....that's all they had left. Bummer. Seems my entire budget is going toward babysitting this summer.I am worried about the transition and also the fact that it is only for 3 weeks, but since it is only two hours each day, and for two weeks we will have swimming lessons directly after, I think it will go OK. I know the first week of Kindergarten Gage hid under his desk and would not come out. But I think since he is older now and we have been talking about summer school all summer, and I have gone over everything with him repeatedly, AND he will know that swimming lessons are literally right after class - well, I just HOPE it goes well. If he really hates it and has a hard time, I don't know what i will do because I really think he needs the additional help. But if his behavior intereferes too much with the therapy and learning then I MAY pull him Anyone else have kids starting summer school?
Gage starts tomorrow every day from 8-10 through the public school to prepare him for 1st grade and he also gets OT, PT, and Speech services.Daniel starts in a week, M-TH 8:30-11:30. He's only getting ST though. Hopefully he will be okay. The first few days always worry me because I don't know how he's going to adjust. *shrug* I decided to keep Mason out of ESY this year...just thought he needed a break...but he does go twice a week for his speech and OT...and will be doing a jumpstart to 1st grade later in the summer. Good luck, I hope it goes well! |
