I have been looking into medications for my son who is 5 1/2. He has
been on Tenex for about a year. It calms him a little but all in all
it's not really doing much anymore. He's recently been having more
tantrums and they are worse than they used to be, as well as some mild
aggression. I've been wondering if these behaviors are being triggered
by anxiety. I'm really not sure, though.
I have looked into riperdal and abilify but I am leary of those due to
the side effects. Also, I don't know if my son's behaviors are really
severe enough to need an antipsychotic.
Anyway, sorry this is so long...but I've been doing some research on
Buspar. It is supposed to help with anxiety and in some cases even
hyperactivity and aggression, with few side effects. I was wondering if
any of you have tried Buspar and how it worked for your child. I feel
like my son needs *something*, but just something mild KWIM?
Thanks!
Hi Becky We briefly tried buspar but it didn't seem to help. However my son has significant problems with anxiety, OCD characteristics and aggression / self injurious behaviors. He has been on risperdal for several years. We are now trying Luvox and so far things seem to be working well. He hasn't bit himself or hit himself like he was before, so Im hopeful!
From what we were told about buspar it is a low acting med and some people question its ability to help... I was told it either works or it doesnt.
Keep in mind not every med works the same for each kid. Hope you find something that works for your son.
Thank you.
