The above is a link to the national website for this great organization. Most states have grants to implement the program. New York does, and I'm participating in this year's sessions. These sessions are AMAZING. I travel two hours to get to them and spend two days there. In all the 15 or so years I've been involved with my son in special education, I have never gone to workshops with better lecturers. And getting to know the developmentally disabled adults, called self-advocates, has been a truly eye-opening experience. I urge you all to consider finding out if this program is available in your state. For you or for any developmentally disabled adult you know. It's completely free and a once-in-a-lifetime experience.
PS -- THIS IS COMPLETELY FREE, INCLUDING ACCOMMODATIONS, MEALS, TRANSPORTATION AND REIMBURSEMENT FOR CHILDCARE EXPENSES!
