Hey Nita sounds like he may be frustrated or over stimulated. How long has he been in the summer program? (did it start this week? several weeks ago?) Is he able to communicate to you his frustrations? Possibly he needs some heavy loading to reduce his stress when he comes home from school, or some "chill time" alone in a quiet corner somewhere so he can unwind.
I know its hard to deal with day after day..... I hope its resolved soon for both of your sakes.
Well I thought things were going great....until this week everyday so far when Nick has gotten home from school until he goes to bed he has been very agressive beating himself in the head hitting me and his sisters, over dumb things like his toy not doing what he wants it to do!! This is the same type of behavior we used to deal with daily until he started the ABA therapy. He is in summer school so he is recieving therapy everyday still. I hear alot about kids regressing and I am so worried that it is happening to him. I talked to his teacher about this to see if maybe there has been a change in the classroom and she said nothing other than there are 2 children that are not there any more. But they havent been there all summer. I don't really know if I am asking a question or if I just need some advice on how to get him out of his funk!! He was doing sooooo good he hadn't used any self injuriouse behavior in 3 months!! Well thanks for listening I will keep you all posted on what I find out or if I figure out what is triggering the behavior.

Hi Nita!
I know what you mean about being or getting sick may be a big factor, my guy is normally a happy go lucky kid, always playful and easily gets over stuff...but when a cold or something is brewing he melts down for the littlest things! I hope he feels himself soon! (hugs) Good idea w/ the trains out of sight out of mind!
I don't know about your program but I took Nicholas out of the summer program he was in...it was night and day from his reg classroom...it was basically a horor story, like a bad daycare, not a classroom...I went to the open house and the first day...that was enought for me... the first day I met the teacher she was all flustered and just like, bothered I was there...so I made it short, but hey it was his first day for cry eye and he didn't know her and I just wanted to see the class...okay so then dh and I go to the open house a week and a half later and guess what...14 kids ranging from 3-8yrs old only 1 teacher, and two para's ...I'm like what the?! AND the room was dirty, no toys, the teacher still frazzled only talking about herself...just rubbed me the wrong way, and I like everyone...and their was two children who were older who were hitting the para's and my guy was in the corner in the dog house someone had donated as a clubhouse LOL...Nicholas always did well in school and I could see he was just being ignored and not getting much out of it, so we decided to have him stay w/ my mil and I've been commuting everyday back and forth to work, I work only 4 days a week so its been okay...being there he is now potty trained and has been sooo social and happy its amazing, he's even talking to me on the telephone, a first LOL I LOVE IT!!!...gosh sorry to go on and on...I digress! LOL...just maybe his enviornment at summer school isn't like his regular school...either way, I'm glad Sept is coming up LOL...hope your Nicholas has a better week hon!
best of luck!!!

I agree with you about the alone time he has been in summer school since July 5th but will be done next Friday and will not have to go back until September 7th, alot of times when he gets off the bus he goes into his room and shuts the door usually he lays on the bed and zones or sleeps for about an hour, and he does not want anyone near him. It is hard to explain that to his 3 yr old sister who is always excited to see him!! She wants to be all over him when he gets home and she usually ends up getting his aggression because of it. Well today I sat back and watched him and really payed attention it could be 2 things that are factors in his behavior this week one is he has caught a cold so maybe he has had a sore throaght? Or it could be because he is over stimulated because of his train track , his dad bought it for him for his b-day in February and he used to have many meltdowns and tantrums resulting in him throwing the train across the room and hitting himself. Well over time the pieces of the track and trains ended up in the bottom of the toy box and since it is summer he has been outside and not really playing with the toys inside. So anyhow over the weekend I cleanded his toyboxes out and put all of his trains and track in their own tub. So he has been playing with them again and the same things are happening he is getting mad throwing them and hitting himself and anyone in his path. So when he is at school tomorrow they are getting put away !!!! Hopefully he gets past this rough patch! Thanks,
Nita
Sounds like Zach with his video games. If I take away the cord as punishment, he will bite himself and pull his hair and get really nasty. When he has a couple of hrs. a day of his games it really relaxes him. Sounds like the train is frustrating him. He loves it but it frustrates him. I agree with you put it away and see if the behavior changes!Oh wow that sounds like a really bad deal glad you pulled him out. My Nicks summer program is in the same room and teacher he had all year THANK GOD!!!! Well I do think the cold and not feeling well is resulting in the agressive behavior, also he hasn't been going to sleep until around 12:00 at night and I have to get him up for school at 6:45 every morning!! So I let him sleep today called in for him
