I'm sorry, I don't know much about TeachTown. I found one I like called the DT Trainer. It's a discrete trial program and much less expensive, I believe. I don't know how they compare, though. You can get a 30 day trial of DT Trainer for only . www.dttrainer.com
Never heard of it but will check it out..as much as our kids love the computer it cant be bad:) I would have to generalize whatever they teach outside of doing it on computer and in all environments to make sure it is truely mastered skills and not rote:) Thanks for link:)I use it and we love it!!! The school funds it for my son! There are activities you do with your child off the computer...ABA stuff that the program provides instructions for the level the child is working on. You report how well he did or didn't do. Then there are picture choice. The computer will give your child 3 choices and he has to pick what the computer is asking for. If your child can't point, you need to be aware of where he's looking and use the mouse to make his choice, same thing for a child who can point and not use a mouse. GREAT FOR LABELS!!!! My son's language still isn't at the 2 year level yet, but he uses it. The program "test" the child and does not go beyond the child's skill set! I've heard good and bad from different people, but we enjoy it!Has anyone used teachtown (teachtown.coom) and what do you think?
We use TeachTown at our home and my 7 yr old son with Autism and 5 year old typical daughter LOVE it. I will give full disclosure - I am a TeachTown employee -and after seeing the website I had to work for the company!
My children totally relate to the characters and they have made paper bag puppets and will role play and make up their own stories (check out the website under "Fun Stuff" for the templates).
The TeachTown: Basics program also just had a 2.0 release, and if you have previewed the program in the past, the new release has many added features and animations! You can visit www.teachtown.com to learn more!
