I am really upset!!!!!!!!!!!!!! | Autism PDD

Thanks for your help. I have looked in to Medicaid already for Josh but he does not qualify because the state of ohio says we make too much money. The sad reality is I would be much better off if we were at poverty which is where we were when both of my children were born then I could get everything taken care of through programs like Medicaid. The promblem is my husband makes like 7000.00 a month because he runs his own buisness and that may seem like alot of money but trust me once we pay our mortgage, Credit cards, Rent on the buisness, all ohter bills like phone, cable etc . We are usually broke by the end of the month and unlike getting a paycheck every two weeks. Sometimes we have to wait 45 days to get paid so our money gets stretched pretty thin. We do have some in savings but we try to save that for the winter months when we get pretty slow and we only get maybe 2500 a month so we use that to keep us a float until spring. I guess I will just have to try and find a way to make payments when I can. I guess I could go back to work but then I would not be able to get Joshua to therapy. Right now I am just stuck. The one good thing I did find out today is at least I won't have to pay for Physical Therapy anymore . His therapists have said that Josh does not need it so now Ijust have sppech once a week and occupational to pay for. Any way thanks for your advice and support, Amy Mom to Joshua 3 PDD - Nos and Jenna 2My ds is over seven (dx the week of his 7th birthday) and wouldn't you
know it -our insurance does not cover anything for him after age seven.

When I was still dealing with infertility I made a lot of calls until I found an
insurance that would cover much of the stuff - I had better luck with non-
profit insurance companies. There are also some companies that provide
better coverage for autism related illnesses, I have heard good things
about Microsoft and Boing. Is it an option for you to find work at a
different company?
Don't give up yet and don't drop insurance before you have something
better lined up. Also a lot of places that provide autism services know
tons about insurance, you could call a local place and ask them which
insurance companies pay for their services and how the referral needs to
be written in order for an insurance company to cover it.
Sometimes oif you get a primary care doctor who knows your insurance, he /she can word things in ways in which the ins co will cover things. When I get an unpaid claim I ask what I can do next time to insure it gets paid.Hello everyone! I have not posted in a while because I have been really worried and upset for the past couple of weeks and could use some support and advice. I have a 3 year old son named Joshua just recently diagonsed with Autism. The promblem is I thought I had good insurance but I guess I don't The bills keep rolling in and they keep denying my claims. My premiums are about 250.00 a month but I am thinking about just dropping our insurance all together. Why should I pay them when they won't even cover something as simple as lab work. My total out of pocket expense just for this month is over 3000.00  And to make matters worse when I try to talk to them they are not sympathetic and just give me a Oh well attitude. I am really angry that big insurance companies treat families with Autistic children like they don't need help. My husband maked decent money but we honestly can not afford this. this is just going to put us in debt for the rest of our lives. My only other option is to drop all our insurance but that would cost even more money because I would now have to pay for Jenna's appointments as well. Anyone have any advice? I could really use some help.Sorry no advise as of yet just a

Don't drop your insurance just yet.  Shop around and see if you can find a better replacement first.  You need the rest of your family covered.

Unfortunately we find out how little insurance can or will help us when we have a child that really needs it.  We were financially threatened too when my ds first got diagnosed.  We still put out a lot out of pocket now but it is a lot better because he has medicaid now.  Irrespective of how much your family makes a catastrophic illness will threaten your financial wellbeing, that is where medicaid waiver can help.  You need to call/go to your local medicaid office find out what you need to do to get coverage for your child who has autism.

Do not be discouraged if your family makes decent money, this is for the child.  If you don't have a case manager which it seems like from your post, you need one, who can help you navigate the system and help you figure out what type of help you can get for your child.

 Good luck.

We also own our business and there needs to be a little more creative financing.  You need seperate accts for the business and make sure it is a true business with the state.  Then cut yourselves very small salary checks each month that just cover your personal essential expenses, not the businesses, that should be paid by the business entity. You should be able to get your salary low enough that you qualify your kids for medicaid.  Also, try to upgrade your existing insurance for your son only.  On our insurance we have our family on one level of insurance and then upgraded my son only.  He is basically his own policy, but becasue we are a business we bought business insurance and it worked.  Also, if you buy business insurance, then the business pays the premium, so again not out of your "meager" salary to qualify for medicaid.  I found that the best insurance is United Healthcare for a business.

The best part, as a business customer, there are no Pre-existing conditions!!!!
