Hi Lindsey,

I have posted videos from time to time.  Here're the girls at age 4 years, nine months, just being themselves.  They have autistic disorder of a mild-moderate severity (really more towards the mild end of things, but they are not 'edge case' kids).  They have pretty good functional language for kids with autistic disorder.  Here's the clips:

To answer your trailing question, in my opinion, language changes many things for the better (fewer tantrums, easier teaching, more opportunities for social exchanges, better play, etc.), but also introduces new issues into the mix.  One of the frustrating things about autistic disorder is that, once functional language is established, you soon realize that there's a lot more than just a speach delay going on...

Click the above link to see 2 recent videos of my son, now 6.  He has been diagnosed as moderate to severe , but personally, I don't know which it is.

As you can see, he does have some language, mostly echolalia and scripting, but I'm fortunate that I can at least hear his voice.  I know with time, things will only improve.  I hope the link works, because I'm no computer whiz, but if not, you can click on page 6 to see them.

take care

Here, this is more direct...
I wish i could post a video of Damian I really think it would answer my questions what exactly is echolia im not sure, but for an example I have told damian we dont touch siccors because we get owies so now ever time he see's sissors he says "we dont touch cause we get owie, and he will continue to say it untill I agree with him. He does this for everything whether its good or bad. He will say his own words if you ask him a question or he doesnt understand but he will run a whole conversation we had all by himself. He doesnt have clear speech and cant hold a conversation on the same subject. his old teacher put in his iep for kindergarden that he needs to learn to speak on one subject for 1 minute but i just dont see how.
