What’s your take on this? | Autism PDD

I just watched all four of these. . .what do you guys think of this?  Please only comment if you take time to watch all of them.

I was REALLY skeptical at first. . . I don't want to believe this could be true, but this guy does raise some points.

This doctor is very convincing and certainly seems to know what he is talking about.  I don't even remember signing a release for my sons to get the hepatitis shot at birth but they both did.  I don't think it's fair for anyone to have to make any decisions minutes before or after giving birth.  You are just not thinking well at that point.  This makes me want to have my son tested for mercury toxicity.

Karrie, the point you bring up is a perfect example as to why you cannot have this conversation.  Depending on who you ask, they are either rising or declining.  Cases have been made on either side, with each side pointing out why the other is wrong :)

A few theories I have heard is that they actually are declining (just isn't really obvious yet), that "they" are still putting mercury into the kids in various ways, thus sustaining the epidemic (trace amounts that get in during the manufactoring process, some vaccines still contain thimeresol (flu, rhogham), that there's enough mercury in the environment to sustain the epidemic, that it's "other stuff" in the vaccines that are sustaining the epidemic, that there were still thimerasol containing vaccines being used because they were not recalled -existing stocks were allowed to be used up, etc.  I'm sure there are more.

Of course, the other side has a counter for every one of these arguments... and on it goes...

I do believe that proponents on theories on either side are sincere, in most cases.

Why is it that stats are rising if thimerasol has been taken out of vaccines?  Is there a theory on that?  Anyone?

I watched all videos.  My only opinion is that he truly seems to believe in what he is saying. I don't think he's selling anything or has an agenda either unless he's being paid by Autism Speaks or CAN...they have merged right?

Karrie

it's so hard to know what's true.   i really wish i could believe someone out there, but everyone seems to have an agenda.  the thing that struck me about this dr, was he didn't really seem to have an agenda.   i don't know if i believe it or not, but it does make me want to learn more from both sides.

That is why they are so appealing -- the ones o nthe edges.  WE WANT someone to trust, who will give us a single concrete answer.  I do not think there is one.

If you google that guy's name, he is pretty much a one-track-mind guy.

Have any of you read the Wikipedia entry on Minamata disease?  It is very moderate.

I am just not certain, one way or the other, about mercury.  Severe mercury poisoning does cause sensory problems, but I am not sure if what is beign described is sensory integration disorder.  But maybe I should research this at a more sophisticated level.

I would not take one person's, even one researcher's, word, for anything.

Hey, I thought we were going to keep discussions of faith and religion off of the main board

Just kidding - I don't have time to watch all of the videos, but this is one of those topics that you'll find extremists on each side very committed to their beliefs and a bunch of confused parents in the middle not knowing what to believe.

I could make a few comments about Boyd Haley and the theory of mercury causation in general, but all I'd be doing is regurgitating talking points from either the pro or con camp - I'm not smart enough to parse it out and argue the merits of the science.  I could create a compelling case for either side by posting a bunch of links from different resources.  But no amount of evidence will cause someone to stop believing what the truly want to believe, so what's the point.

I do, however, have a 'gut' feeling - a belief that's come from reading opinions, research, and rhetoric from both sides.  Much of it goes over my head, but not all of it, and what doesn't, as well as the general tone and peripheral beliefs of those expousing their viewpoints tends to push me over the fence onto one side of the issue - but it's just a belief, no more and no less valid than anyone elses.
