Did u try the rocker (infant/toddler rocker with straps?).. also my OT had suggested a hammock...
WOW this WAS my life until my son was 6 years old. He was up hours every single night and I mean EVERY NIGHT -until we FINALLY after prayers and tears decided to medicate him to sleep, and now things are much better, he still gets up but briefly, and I am afraid I still have to sleep with him (sigh)...but consider meds - there ARE sleeping aids with NO SE's (side effects) like trazadone - etc - talk to your doc -
bless your heart I feel for you.
My son is 30 months and still not sleeping consistently through the night. He is a real "mama's boy" and I don't work and am with him pretty much 24/7 to take him to therapies, and the only real break I get is Mother's day out 2 X a week for 3 hours.
Anyway, he will sleep all night one night, then the next night he gets up 2-4 times, wanting to be rocked to sleep. I know, I know....... I should not do that. Well, my son is a puker, and there are just some nights I don't feel like cleaning up him, the bed, the floor, me, the walls, you get the picture :) So if I let him cry it out, he pukes (within 1-3 minutes) if I rock him, he sleeps for a while, sometimes.
Last night he slept from 8-1, I rocked him to sleep, then he was awake from 2-6! I am exhausted.....frustrated......don't know what to do. He was wide awake, wanting to play, be tickeled, etc. I said no it is time to sleep, and then he would flop out of the rocker onto the floor and scream. I let him throw his fit, then I picked him back up, tried to console him, put him back to bed, etc., until 6 when he finally went back to sleep.
He is not napping daily, maybe 1 -2 days a week, and he goes to bed at 8 pm and gets up at 7 every day. Dr. says that is enough sleep for his age-I have tried Benadryl and Melatonin- my friends with NT children don't understand. ANY suggestions??????
We have had good luck with melitonin and are also on trazadone. I have found the trazadone seems to help her sleep longer ( we still need to be on alert and ready with a bottle at 2am some times but with out the traz when she got up at 1 or 2 am she was up for the DAY! Now there is hope to get her back to sleep ) You need to do what ever it takes to get the best rest for your family. I did lots of research on both meds and called my ped and told her I wanted to try them - the ped neurolgist later ok them also. We also have the problem of having to drive dd in car to get her to sleep - bummer but atleast something is working for now. Good luck I'm looking forward to a hospitail stay and the hope of even 4 hours of straight sleep lol. of course having a second baby to get it is a bit drastic :) I hope more sleep is in your future. Rita, nutmeg is also a natural hallucinogen! Be CAREFUL with "natural" remedies (I realize you are using a tiny dose, but ... ). Babyboy2005, Benadryl can make things worse ... we use dimetapp with some success. Not for T -- she hates the TASTE! ETA: Try googling "nutmeg high" ... Oh My god Linda - THANKYOU! Bec I am one to be skptical abt everything - I tried it but in such a small dose - no matter it made no difference. And now I am so thankful that i didn't really try the "recommended" dose! Apparently many ppl try nutmeg.. even in coffee to avoid a caffeine high..
the night! at some point we will have to break that cycle but right now
there are other battles to fight.
with that said he still wakes at times in the night for no reason. just
shoots straight up and wide awake. i know that lots of these kids have
sleep issues.
i would think your options could include medication (pediatric neurologist
could probably prescribe them), co-sleeping, and maybe do a sleep study
at a sleep clinic to see what is going on.
LNutmeg is a natural sleep-inducer! If you can grate some and add a little sugar to it..?? I tried it with my daughter - it didnt work too well but I was told that I should have tried a little more.. its a sure thing apparently!
