Dyspraxia | Autism PDD

Wow.  Cole has pretty crummy fine motor skills and is behind in his motor planning.  He was 5 before he could jump with both feet off the floor, still has trouble with proper handling of cutlery, and his handwriting is illegible and huge. He was 6 before he took stairs with alternating steps.  He cannot dress himself and is not potty trained.

He was a very early preemie, so much of this could be a result of his medical history.

How do you know if they are dispraxic and what do you do to help?  He gets some OT at school.

Thanks.

Our dd was first id'd as having dyspraxia from PT, then OT said it was
intertwined w/ her SPD, and ST id'd as verbal & oral apraxia. Neuro dx'd as
"dyspraxia." She has days where motor planning is pretty good, others when
it is terrible--it can even change from hour to hour. It's most obvious in her
oral motor function, speech, and motor skills like running, jumping, walking,
etc. May want to mention it to neuro, and speak to OT about it. Thank you, Warren! I just checked out the website & will go back for more
info. My dd has dyspraxia & this will be a very helpful site for us. Thanks
again!

Wow thanks, when my son was first diagnosed with dyspraxia, I could not find any info that was based in the US only Austrailia and UK.  Great to know that dyspraxia has a site in US and maybe just maybe people can be more aware of it.
