Hyperbaric Chamber treatment | Autism PDD

My dd (age 6) is involved in a NIH study for Hyperbaric Medicine (Oxygen treatment under pressure). She will receive 20 hours of therapy in a hard chamber  (accompanied by me). They test her before the treatment and then when the treatment regiment is over to see what has changed. I am very excited and we have already done 5 hours. She is doing great, but I am falling apart (and i don't even have an oxygen mask on). I had yeast die off a few days ago and I can't hear. My ears are terminally clogged and my hearing is way off. I hope things go back to normal when the study is done. I haven't seen any changes in dd, but they said that things don't begin to shift until about 15 hours of treatment. The NIH recommends 40 hours, but this study is about "trends", so if we like what we see and want to continue we can receive the therapy for 1/2 off. Anyway, I will keep you posted if I see any big "wows".

Forgive me for being slightly jealous.

Did you run your symptoms past the Dr? Maybe there is somethnig you can do for them.

Please update later!

Yes please keep us posted. I am interested in your experience as well. It is
one of the therapies that I am considering right now. I am jsut tying to do
the Math for 40+ dives at a 0.00 a pop or so. I do hope that your child
improves.

The psychologist who is doing the before and after testing (and not associated with the study, but curious about the results) refused to tell me what changes she had seen (until after we finish); however, she said that most of the changes were not quantifiable but were very definately there. I am not sure what that means. I assume that things will just be "better". I will let you know

Aloha, Renee

BE careful about your ears and hearing.  I know when we go under using mHBOT, you don't want to do it if you are congested.  THe pressure can cause problems.  I know of a mom who actually ruptured her ear drums.  She eventually had tubes inserted and hasn't had a problem since doing he dives.

Thanks for the warnings and encouragement. They are pretty careful about my ears..They check them everytime I go in. I havent been in pain..just very "full" feeling. I think that my ears have always been a problem because I can't clear my ears too well on airplanes and I couldn't dive in a pool as a child. The Center that is conducting the study is not a DAN, it is a Hyperbaric Medicine Center that provides services to diabetics, wound healing, neurological damage, C.P. etc.  Meanwhile my dd is excited to go to the "blue trap". As I said..we are already finished hour 5 and probably won't see any changes until next week when we are on hour 15. I am so curious to see if this will help!

Aloha, Renee
