He gets it! (stranger danger) | Autism PDD

Okay, at least in this instance he gets it! Hooray!

Just a few minutes ago, someone knocked on the door and I was in the other room while ds was watching TV. The front door opens up into our great room (which is where ds was/is watching TV (he isn't feeling good). I just waited to see what would happen. Nothing at first. But then there was another knock. Ds called out to me, "MoooOOOOOM! There's someone at the door!" He didn't go to the door, didn't try to answer it and actually TOLD me that someone was there (even though he was intent on the Backyardigans!). It was the Schwan's guy and ds hasn't yet met him. I praised him a LOT for it after and said I was very proud of him for not going to the door himself - he said, "Well, mom you ALWAYS tell me not to open the door - even for people we know!" HA! He got it! WOOHOO! It makes yesterday's meltdown and today's not-so-great morning kind of melt away for a bit!

snoopywoman39269.4962268519Wow, That is a biggie! What a relief. I still wonder about my nt 8yr old. Doesn't seem to get it. Now try next time without the everpopular backyardigans. Congrats.

 That is a great awareness to have..

I never tested Sarah in this area..so afraid she will walk off with someone or trust what anybody would tell her.   I tell her the rules but I am always around..I need to watch and see what she would do when the next opportunity comes up:)

Good deal.

Or should I say, "Great Caesar's Ghost!"

[QUOTE=stickboy26]Good deal.

OY.  BB say this all the time!  That and "Oh Brother."  The funny thing is he is using it appropriately!  He says GCG when he is surprised and OB when he is bored or thinks something is silly.
