NJ Early Inter - per hr!!!!!!!!! | Autism PDD

Share

It is on a sliding base income.  We got our letter yesterday too.  I was wondering Rita is your daughter getting 15 hours a week of ABA or is that total services because I am fighting with my service coordinator to get ds 10 hours a week he is only getting 7.5 right now.

Wow. EI is still free in CA. This is not a good development at all for national
services EI is decided state by state and states CAN charge.  Itinerant special educations services are oftentimes charge to the government at aroudn 0/hr., so they are picking up 75%. Of course, /hr. is still HIGH.  My guess is that sliding scales are applied...look into it.

Hi all,

The amount we have to pay per hour is based on the financial information that was provided to your service coordinator at the time of the first IFSP and the annual each year.

My friend pays .00 per hour, we dont have a cost share because of our income.  I cant imagine.  Between my two sons they receive 18 hours per week.  If I had to pay per session we would definitely cut back.

I just got appointed to the govenor's committee, The State Interagency Coordinating Agency http://www.state.nj.us/health/fhs/eis/sicc.shtml   so that I can be involved in the decisions that are made for children receiving EI services.  Read the website and become involved, attend board meetings, get yourself appointed on the committee.  They are looking for parents to join.

By the way, my son that is diagnosed is getting ABA daily for one hour and fifteen minutes.  I asked our therapist if we should increase to longer sessions and she said she thought he could handle the longer sessions but didnt think it would help.  SHe said it would be a better benefit if i did the same activities with him thoughout the day rather the extend his sessions with her.  I think she forgets I have to watch his twin brother and my older son who is four also diagnosed with autism.  I wish I had the time to do the drills with him through out the day but i dont (((sigh))).  I still have not decided if I should push for longer sessions.  What do you think?

hope this helps :)

I forgot to mention I just started this meetup group for parent of autistic children.

Here is the link if anyone is interested

The State of NJ has decided to increase the family cost share for Early Intervention to per hour........... I got the official letter yesterday (effective Aug 1st), talked to my service coordinator this morning....

U know... there one bad news after the other.....And u guys think there is a DIVINE reason?????????????????My daughter gets 15 hrs per week ( I got these hrs 2 weeks ago) - guess what - i will be reducing these hrs now

rita0739269.3399537037Just out of curiosity - Is this a flat rate regardless of household income?

They did that too after Sarah was exiting them..but was told that no family would be denied for lack of money for it and would do sliding scale for those that needed it..check into it:)

IMHO our ECI here did nothing to help Sarah. IT was 8 mos. of trying to follow her around but she never gave them the time of day...they do play therapy and Sarah had no desire to play at all so they followed her all over the house..

It took ABA to help her to want us in her space and vice versa..

Usually it is always a sliding scale based on income. Did you fill out any paper work letting them know your income?  I would call and ask too.

I talked to a few ppl - there eis a mix - I will find out from my service coordinator on Mon - I think the max is approx. 0 per month. BIIIG difference from /hr but still I used to pay a month - if I have to jump to 0, it is going to pinch anyway!!

My dd gets 15 hrs total therapy - 2.5 hrs of DI  (overall developmental therapy which is dd DOES NOT respond to ATALL and

10.75 (?) hrs of ABA  (by 10.75 - I mean 10 hrs and 45 mins) where she starts HOWLING as soon as she sees the therapist. Now, none of the ABA instructors theu EI are Board certified! So they are trained in ABA but not certified. The therapists are thru Theracare. I think my therapist is WONDERFUL - she retired from public (special ed) schools and then joined EI.

Total = approx. 15 hrs.

Did you do the caculations for what you would pay hourly and the maxium you would be required to pay.  For us it is a big difference.  Hopefully it will be for you too.  Check it out.

Wow!!  In New York, EI is free.  Granted, we didn't get 15 hours of ABA, but we got 10, plus 2 hours each of speech and OT , so basically it was just about 15 hours of services.  I would be upset, too!!

I've heard that NJ is great with school age services.  I just wish you could get more, now.

(((HUGS)))

Sheesh.....that is outrageous.  I used EI a few years ago and there was no charge at that time ( MAssachusetts ), though I know they took all my inusrance info and perhaps billed some to them.....

Is there any way to have insurance help with it ?

So sorry you have to deal with that....really stinks.....I'd never be able to swing those prices....
