IEPs....Ugh | Autism PDD
LOL!!!! i can really relate to that!! i cannot stand IEP meetings!!
i was supposed to have my last IEP meeting for the school year in
March. as soon as i got there, the (preschool) teacher said "there were
some changes, so we'll have another one coming up soon." argh. next one
was scheduled for May, at my daughter's new school. got there, and the
new special ed teacher says "we're not fully prepared, so we'll have to
schedule another one." Argh! finally went to a third one at the end of
May, and our issues still did not get resolved. ARGH!! luckily my
daughter's preschool teacher saw my frustration and has been taking
care of a lot of it over the summer. YAY!
what also really made me mad, at the last IEP meeting, was a younger
girl (early 20s) that was attending. she just waltzed right in,
mid-meeting, and sat down with us. when i asked who she was, she told
me she was a kindergarten teacher. so i said "oh, you're C's new
teacher for next year? nice to meet you!!" and she says "OH NO!!! i'm
not C's teacher next year. i dont know who her teacher will be, but its
not me. i just came to the meeting anyway." WHAAAAT?! oh man, i was so
angry. 
you should have heard the vulgarities racing through my mind. it would have made a sailor blush!
See!! That "who invited her" flashcard would have worked perfectly for you! I need one for the Administrator! Haha...unfortunately she has to be there.
I think I would have been upset by a 'walk-in' too....if you have nothing to offer...get out! Right!?! Incidentally...if you don't want someone there, they can't stay. They must be "invited" beforehand...and you can object to anyone on the list! I had to sign a release to have someone I invited from the DOE to attend. Can't believe the run-around you got...hopefully next year won't be so bad...and it's a good thing that you have someone "from the inside" on your side...it helps - at least for morale.
I hate IEPs. Period. They should/could be so promising, yet they always end up being "breaking our promise"...

If she wasn't invited she shouldn't had been there. You could had requested that she leave and if she refused you could had said "meeting over", got up and walked out. I know I made a point last school year of saying to the IEP Team Leader that the principal of the school didn't get Gabe and I didn't want her at anymore IEP meetings. After that she was at another IEP meeting for Gabe.

normally i would've asked why she was even there, but the other people in the meeting started talking to her. they all knew her except me. but i did end the meeting soon after. i was really cranky and we were getting nothing accomplished. her IEP is still not finished. i am putting my faith in the preschool teacher, even though she is no longer C's teacher. she has become our "advocate" i guess you could say. she's the one that got the bussing that i wanted for my daughter - small bus, very few kids, and a para at all times. the bus company told me it wasnt an option. the preschool teacher MADE it an option! lolSunny, They should have introduced her. My daughter goes to a regular public school with a sp-ed preschool. She is transitioning into kindergarten (at age 4- I know..ridiculous) and they had A kindergarten teacher show up for her IEP..not so much that she will be her teacher, but as input for all the kindergarten teachers. They don't decide on teachers until they do testing on all the kindergartners and decide how they will divide up the classes. So perhaps this rude young thing was a representative for the kindergarten teachers...in which case you should make sure she isn't your daughter's teacher

Guess we can all use some humor when dealing with these...I hate IEPs...got one coming up in the next 3 weeks. (I personally like the one about having fun at IEPs...I need the "who invited her?" flashcard)
