Is this a new stim? | Autism PDD

When Nate was just a year old, he moved from California to the east coast. At the new house he started licking the patio doors. Yuck. Fortunately he stopped in a relatively short time and I haven't seen him do it again and his mom hasn't told me that he has been licking anything.

My dd just started doing the licking thing about two weeks ago. I was also wondering if it was a stim. She has also started rubbing her face. The other day the skin around her eyes was actually red from all the rubbing.

I, along with several people around, me gagged.

He is NT, Possibly ADHD with definite Sensory-seeking qualities of SID.

ETA: He used to stick his tongue out to lick stuff, a LOT.  We kept after him about it and he has mostly stopped it.

foxl39268.3240509259I think it is more of a sensory input thing - My son did that for a while but it grossed me out so much that he got into trouble or a stern look from me, so thankfully he only does it about maybe once or twice a month if he gets a new toy or something, he will lick it.
Its gross, but I always thing "It could be worse"
Trinity also has a habit of licking strange things, not all the time. It more so comes in spurts, her fav is licking anything wood...i.e. the rocking chair... At first I didn't know what to think about it but since all "this" has started and I have begun to read the Out-Of-Sync-Child it says that children who lick things and mouth objects(hands, shirts, toys) are sensory seeking. How to fix it? I dunno haven't finished the book yet, but i'll keep you posted!!!

The only thing I have been able to find that helps is suckers and gum...when I catch him chewing I give him one or the other...it got so bad during school that he would come home and his little fingers would be so sore from all the chewing he did on them...I finally talked the school into letting him have gum at school...they gave me a hard time about it for awhile, but once his teacher took notice and saw just how much he was chewing on his hands and shirts, she finally agreed as long as he kept it in his mouth.

I have wondered the same thing danyell782. My son Skylar started licking things a while back and then it evolved into constantly chewing on his hand, I am talking ENTIRE hand in his mouth, and I have to change his shirt a few times in one day due to him chewing on it as well. Once it is wet, he won't wear it anymore, and will throw a fit if I do not change it right then. I have seen that he only chews on his left hand. I am looking at him right now sitting in front of his tv watching cartoons, and his left hand is in his mouth. I have tried everything to get him to stop, and so far no luck.

Good luck to finding the answers that you are looking for. You are not alone.
My son has been licking things now... All the time i catch him licking toys, the tv, his brother , himself and when we go out he is licking the shopping cart which i almost vomited the other day when i saw him do this. He has even came up to me and licked my arm. Is this a habit i can break or should i just let it go i tell him no he he stops for like a mintue then right back to licking what ever is in front of him. Any body else have lickers out there...
