Too many musculoskeletal injuries.

Frankly I think the ped was (validly) CYA-ing.  I think it is a tradeoff that each of us must choose between.  Fractures, or alterantively, the injuries our kids get, both skeletal and EMOTIONAL, from

CLIMBING THE WALLS!!!!

ETA: it's my plan to revisit getting one in a few months ...

How amazing!

T is like that, over jumping on trampolines ... I STILL wish we had a mini-tramp but the ped talked her Dad out of it ... SIGH.

Really foxl?  What were the reasons?  Jess has one and she LOVES it.  (and I love it because I was sick of her jumping on the bed and the furniture!)There are times when my dd will have a hard time going to school and the OT will take her for therapy right away.  It calms her down immediately and she's in a much better mood for the rest of the school session.  She loves the swing especially.  Calming and gets her to focus.Sensory Integration therapy can have an immediate affect, but it can be temporary (until the therapy is performed again).  It takes time for the brain to reorganize itself permanently.  And sometimes it also just takes maturity.  They don't call this a developmental delay for nothing.  That is why it's important for parents to learn to deliver the therapy at home, daily. Ask the OT for help with this.  Sensory Integration therapy will help immensely over time.My ds also loves his private OT.  There is just something about her that he will do almost anything for her. Sometimes under protest. Even my mom say it when she went with us to a session.  How much he likes her.
I am so glad that she had a productive first session.  It is great that she has OT before speech.

Tues was Trinitys first day of OT, the girl was really sweet...Trinity took to her right away. She started with beans, and even though Trinity didn't want to really play IN them she played with them pouring them in to things, just about everything other than touching them. They played with a few toys and then they sat on a big swing and played with another pop-up toy (her fav). I had never seen her take to a stranger that fast before. The OT even made the comment she was bracing herself for a meltdown because she heard how she was the first few times with the ST. I was shocked! After OT we went right into ST(same building) and she was GREAT! I don't know why but she was "talking" to Angie(ST) and having fun with her flash cards and trying to make the animal sounds and EVERYtime before this she is silent with her other than crying and screaming. She too was amazed. I had to pretty much hold back tears hearing her tweet like a bird while pointing to the bird flash card. Even afterward we had to stop by the store(usually a terror) and she was really good. On the way home she got really excited when we drove by some cows, she was pointing and I even think trying to moo. Could this all be because of the OT?? It was only one time. Tuesday was the best day we have had in a while. Also I have been cutting back on milk(can't at the inlaws though they think its just crazy and then give it to her

Oh and Happy 4th!!!

Kids can repond right away to sensory integration OT. When they first
begin, it can have a calming effect on the body. Also, usually OTs try not to
over-stimulate the kids, and sometimes end their session with an exercise
that is designed to calm. Effects can last all afternoon. Definitely tell your
OT about Trinity's mood or behavior changes (good or bad) following OT, so
she can plan her sessions accordingly.

I am happy to hear that your child took so well to her new therapist! A good
relationship can make all the difference when it comes to therapy. J's OT is
one of his favorite people on the planet. I believe she can claim much credit
for his development, patially due to her skills, and partially because J just
adores her and LOVES OT.I don't know the answer but she is just the sweetest little thing. Enjoy every wonderful moment with your gorgeous daughter. As soon as we got home I wanted to call and tell them(ST&OT) how good she was at the store and about the cows, but I felt a little silly(thinking surely it was not already having an effect) and knew they were swamped for the day. Thurs they are closed for holiday so it will be Tues again before we get to share the news but I will let them know. I really look forward to seeing how well things go these next few(important) months!!
