Hi All,

My name is Charlene, i have a 10 year old daughter who was diagnosed with aspergers and pdd-nos by a neurological paediatrician, at this point in time i have so many emotions going through me. Anger, frustration, sadness etc etc. We stay in south africa where there is such an apparent need for schools out here. I have been struggling for 5 years to have a diagnosis made for my daughter so that i know how to move forward and finally there appears to be hope. My daughter (melissa) has been referred to a special school in cape town, we stay about two hours drive away and they will give us a final confirmation on what route to follow and confirm the paediatricians diagnosis.  She has been on the waiting list for this school now for 8 months and they can only see her next year january, in the interim she is falling further behind in school and the current school has said that they cannot keep her from the end of this year (she is in a private school) the government schools wont accept her and i feel so lost at the moment - i dont know which way to go and i dont feel like my husband truly understands what i am going through......I just dont know what to do anymore

Hi and welcome ,I have an almost 6 year old with pdd,Aspergers,I am sorry you are having so much trouble ,we are all here to help you. This is a great board .

Linda

Welcome to the board. I have a 12 year old son with Asperger's, ADHD and Learning Disibilities.  I think you will like this forum, lots of information on this site. Just want to mention the emotions you are going through are normal for a parent that just found out their child has an Autism Spectrum Disorder, and you will go through different stages, kinda like going through grief when someone passes away. Hang in There. Everybody deals with it their own way, in their own time. Their is another site called Oasis.com might give you some help on what you can do to teach your child until she gets back in School.  Welcome . You will LOVE this board. People here are amazing. So ask ANYTHING you want here.

Welcome to the forum.  I live in Norway, and it took 2 years from the time we first sought help for our son at age 5 till the time he was officially diagnosed, so I know all about the frustrations of waiting.  Hang in there!

You'll find a lot of great information and support here, but one thing we don't have is knowledge about resources in South Africa (I don't think we have any other members from South Africa).  I hope you can find a source of local support to supplement this forum.

I look forward to hearing more about you and your daughter.  Again, welcome.
