My three year old dd is supposed to start a special ed preschool, which is at a public elementary school, on Thurs. A bus is supposed to pick her up at her regular preschool and take her to the public school. Her class is only for 2 hours and 20 minuets. So I get a call from the transportation dept., they are going to pick her up at 10:55 and bring her back at 3:40, that's nearly five hours!!! The school is 3.8 miles away. She's not going to get any lunch or nap. We called them back and they were like, too bad, so sad can't help you. Putting a three year old through that is totally going to defeat the purpose of having her in special ed.
Does anyone know if they can do that??? We live in the LA area.
Thanks!
I would not recommend it. What does the preschool offer? 1:1 ABA pull
outs? Speech 1:1? You need to weigh the services with the time that she
has available. That is roughly 5 hours time for 2 hours worth of what? Do
you need the transportaion because you are working and unable to bring
her? Is this L. A. Ca.? Have you contacted anyone from LAFEAT so see how
they would deal with this? Just my thoughts.
Thanks Kathy, I will check out LAFEAT, I had never heard of that.
Well we were able to switch her to the morning class so now at least she will be able to have lunch and take a nap. Still getting the transportation worked out.
Yes I have to work unfortunately. That is horrible. I won't do it. Maybe someone like a family member can pick her up and drop her off. I know it's hard. Here in CO it took 3 months for the public school system to give my daughter a bus ride to and from school. I had to drop her off and pick her up with her brother a baby.
