That is awesome, thanks for sharing!

That is wonderful.  I already use Walgreens, but I will spread the word.  I live in NC.  I want to make sure I let others know in our community, so that they will support Walgreens.

Thanks

Lori

I just saw that story on the Nightly News tonight.  This is encouraging and I hope other companies follow this lead. My Quincy hasn't been diagnosed yet but it's hopeful to know that he might be able to have a job someday and be somewhat independent.

There's actually a company in Denmark that hires only Asperger/autistic  adults, because they're thrive with the detail work involved in the job -- some sort of testing of computer data, as I recall.  There's talk about setting up a branch in Norway, which might benefit my son ten years down the line. I think its great, wish more stores would do this

The last town I lived in, our local Walgreens had the nicest boy cashiering there, he would talk my ear off about some random topic, while looking around,  w/out waiting to hear my reply!  I instantly thought he must have Asperger's.  Good for Walgreens.  I always liked shopping there.  My son loves to go there and get matchbox cars.   Our local grocery chain, Publix, has a lot of developmentally disabled employees in their stores.  People love them, they are always kind and hard working.  It's the way it should be everywhere!Yayyy Walgreens - they are going to get all of my custom now

Here is the link about the program:

I noticed they have something in the Lehigh Valley PA area too!  I'll have to read more.  One thing I'm not sure is on Walgreen's website.... this apparently came about because on of the senior VP's has a child with autism.

Again, yoohoo!  Walgreens!

Mary

That's fantastic. That's more than I make!

Anybody else read about Walgreens opening a big distribution warehouse and employing about 100 folks with developmental disabilities?  Sadly for most of us, it is in Anderson, SC.  I had heard a while back about it being considered, but I read recently that the facility is almost ready to open.  Not only is the number of "special" employees encouraging, but the article said the pay for these employees will be about .00/hr.  Much better than usual.

I'll find the link to the article and post separately.  Kudos Walgreens!

Mary
