So the whole Snape situation has bothered me for the last two years. Lately I have re-watched all of the Star Wars movies and I think there are a lot of similarities. (Luke finding out he is a Jedi, Harry a Wizard, etc.). I think the ending will be the same, sort of. Snape has always been good (or will turn good at the end). Dumbeldore instructed him to kill him b/c he knew he would either need to die or would die. Dumbeldore knew that by killing him, Snape would forever have Voldermort's trust. At the final battle, Voldermort vs. Harry, Snape will intercede. Voldermort will assume that he has his loyalty. Snape will help to save Harry (either b/c that was the plan all along and Dumbeldore knew he was good or b/c he turned to the "good side" ala Darth Vader at the very end.). Do I need to go outside and get some fresh air? What do you think? Raquel
i think a little fresh air is good for everyone sometimes
im not much of a harry potter fan (though my mom is nuts over that stuff)
But i LOVE star wars new trilogy and old i am a star wars nut these days
however i found the prequels a bit more entertaining then the original movies at times
( im autistic and easily mesmorised by special effects) and pretty colors
one thing i remember was from episode 3
was anakins turn to the darkside and all of the events that drove him to it
it was a powerfull movie and had alot of good/evil drama
in the end when anakin finnally succumbed to evil and him and obi wan had that lightsaber fight on the planet mustafar was my favorite part of the movie
i also liked the scene you mentioned in return of the jedi when luke saves his father from the darkside and vader destroys palpatine.
so thankl you for your interesting post there are some similarites you are right about that
My Jason perservates on Star Wars...I never thought about it being the special effects! LOL
He really likes R2D2, though, and smiles every time he's on the screen. He's gotten pretty fascinated by Episode III, though.
As for Harry Potter...well, I think Snape is no teddy bear, but he's definitely one of the good guys. I don't think he'll intercede between Voldy and Harry in the final battle, though. If anyone does, I would expect it to be Wormtail, finally paying off that life debt. Mwahahaha!
I am really looking forward to Deathly Hallows...something fun to read, for a change!
WOW! This is a fun thread! Tony LOVES Star Wars, and Harry Potter! We have all the movies, and he is like Rainman in that he knows large portions of script by heart.
And R2D2... we found a "stuffed" R2 at Goodwill that "beeps".... Tony has slept with R2 ever since! We even have to tell R2 goodnight.
BTW - Tony is 12, and until R2 came along, was not big on sleeping buddies!
Too funny!

My oldest son, who turns 10 the end of this month, is crazy about Star Wars. He has an R2D2 phone that's very cool. He also loves all of the Lego models.
We are also Harry Potter fans. I read somewhere that J.K. Rowling has hinted that Snape may redeem himself in the final book. To me, it seems kind of right that the professor Harry liked the least might help him in the end.
I honestly don't believe Rowling is going to kill off Harry. I suspect there is a loophole in the prophecy. Everyone keeps speculating that she's going to kill of either Harry, Ron or Hermione because she has said it's going to be 2 main characters. My first thought when I heard this was she's going to kill off Hagrid. To me, that would be truely sad. We'll all find out soon!
I'm not a huge Star Wars fan although I did enjoy watching the movies. Episode I and VI were my favorites.
I like the Harry Potter movies and am excited about going to see Order of the Phoenix next week.
That looks like it's shaping up to be a really fun watch, doesn't it? *rubs hands together gleefully*
I can't wait.
okay Raquel
So here is my theory on Harry Potter. I love the series and I am exicted for the new book so I think in 7th book that Snape is quite possibly not as bad as intended. I also don't think Dumbledore is still alive because of something it said in the last book about leaving a piece of the person soul inside the Horacrux. I have often wondered if Dumbledore did this to perserve himself or something of himself for the end that he knew was coming. I also think the prophecy and some of what has been hinted at is going to bring Neville to the front this time and make him more of a main character because he was the other child in the book born on the same day. It just happenened that Voldemort chose Harry instead of him. As for who they are going to kill off I don't have the slightest yet but my guess would name wormtail as one. Interesting topic what does everyone else think?

amie - I think your hunches about Neville are right. I always liked the Neville character and I'd love to see him play an important role in the final book.
I also wonder if the Dursleys might somehow play a role in the end. Maybe Aunt Petunia will come around a bit more.
The jacket cover shows Harry, Ron and Hermione on a dragon. I've heard speculation that it's Norbert, which I think kids would love.
While I personally enjoy reading this series of books, what I like even more is the fact that my oldest son and my nephew actually want to talk about them. I love seeing kids so entertained by a book that they want to discuss characters and possible plots.
My eldest is obsessed with LOTR and we had to have all the dolls, dvd's, chess set..music ect...she still googles their costumes and has been Arwen or Galadriel or some other midevel charactor at halloween so many times....I think she has seen each of the moveis at least 20x..She can recite every scene and wants to tell you about them in detail.....I think she is a little aspie but shhhhh!
I personally loved Harry potter more because of all the imaginitive things that I have never seen before done in my life.....the talking pictures, newspapers, moving staircases..whipping tree:) even the candy was so cool! I am not one to watch violence like the LOTR and dd made me watch 3000 which was gruesome and I cringed all through the movie... gave me nightmares!
Are any of you camping out outside of barnes and noble to get the first copy?? I have a cousin with aspergers that is:)
Professor snapes creeps me out but it could be a front to mislead us & wondering till the end..he did help Harry before in one episode(?) so we shall see:) I would love Hermone and Harry to get together in the end they make a good team:)

I purchased a .00 reservation card at Target. That card price applies to the book purchase, and I'm guaranteed a copy on Release Day, July 21.
I love the Harry Potter books, but I am one behind! Better read it quickly before the last one comes out!
I love the original Star Wars movies too. The Empire Strikes Back is my favorite.
I read the Hobbit when I was 12 and subsequently the Lord of the Rings. I remember having to take notes and mark pages to remember who was who, but I loved it just the same. My senior year in college I took a fantastic course called The Mythic JRR Tolkien and Biblical, Nordic, and Celtic Mythology...I read The LOTR a second time, and it was twice as awesome. When the movie came out I was so afraid that I would be disappointed, but they were beyond my wildest expectations and clearly made by people who loved the books as much as I did (Did you see the group accepting the Best Picture Oscar for The Return of the King at the Academy Awards that year? I was SO happy for them!).
My daughter cried at the last lotr episode!
Her and her friends memorized the elfen language so that they could write letters to each other and no one could read them. For talent show..she played flute while her friend sang the song by Annie Lennox (?) very beautiful..both dressed in long red velvet Arwen costumes..she was a little obsessed to say the least!
