Weird swimsuit question | Autism PDD

I always wear my shorts (and pants) baggy and low on my hips. If I ever need a belt, it's for no other reason than to keep the pants from falling off of me.

I actually despise tucking my shirt in or dressing up, and will only do it if it's absolutely necessary.
My boy was wearing trunks previously and he being so thin, he would shake his body and let his trunks DROP OFF !! Pretty embarassing if it is done in public !!
When I was little, I saw this happen to someone at the pool and everyone laughed -- and for much longer than it was actually funny. I always hated being the butt of long-standing jokes unless it was my idea, so I went out of my way to make sure this would never happen -- from then on I always insisted that I have trunks with a drawstring. I learned how to fix the drawstring to where it wasn't cutting me in half, but it wouldn't fall past my waist either.

It's probably safe to say I spend way too much time strategizing over stuff like this... My grandma is 93 and wears her pants just below her chest- with a tucked in shirt and a BELT!

However, he does not seem to care if his shorts are on backwards and doesn't ever look to see if he is putting them on the right way.

This is a funny thread.  My oldest son who is NT wears everything high and it drives my husband nuts.  He's contstantly pulling up whateer it is.  Quincy on  the other hand doesn't do this and he's the one that we are waiting on the diagnosis for.

My boy was wearing trunks previously and he being so thin, he would shake his body and let his trunks DROP OFF !! Pretty embarassing if it is done in public !!

But now, he wears the body suit and he simply LOVES it !!! No more nude flashing anymore...in fact, it's like a spiderman thing with the suit minus the mask !!  This thread is funny and it makes me think there may be something to that
old awful nerd stereotype--where they always wear their pants too high. I'm
thinking of Ed Grimley.

My son's Dad, who I suspect of having AS is a BIG fan of belts. All the time.
Even when it looks wierd of innapropriate. He wears his pants at the right
height, but is definitely guilty of tucking in many shirts that shouldn't be.My son, Zach, has recently started wearing his pants and shorts pulled up high past his belly button. I keep telling him if he pulls them any higher they'll be up to his neck!!!!! He is 10 and has never done this before. He also has Aspergers as a secondary condition. His swim trunks he wears normal. Not mine , he just keeps pulling them OFF LOL We do body swimsuits, but when we used to do swim trunks, Daniel did tend to have them high, but not past his belly button... My son has no hips or rear end, so I start them high, but he always ends up showing some crack!

You know, I'll have to check on that one! When he is at the pool, they are always on correctly. But, he has no rear end either so I wonder if they start up high and kind of sneak their way down!

I have to say that I remember wearing a two-piece swimsuit when I was a little girl and I kept trying to pull the bottom up over my belly button. It was definitely a body image thing for me - I was always a little overweight and I hated having my belly showing! Maybe a sensory thing, but not a huge one.

Edit: I forgot to add that I think a lot of our kids have a problem with spatial relations and what is supposed to go where. I know a lot of times my ds will have his shorts or pants crooked - in other words, the fly is not directly under his belly button, it is over to the side. This has gotten better over the years, but when he was 4 it was a huge issue. My dd at 3 can't always fix that herself, but she is aware of it and asks me for help to fix it.

snoopywoman39262.242650463Ya know, the more I think about this... I realized, my brother ALWAYS wore his pants, shorts, whatever up that high...At least for as far back as I can remember...So maybe it's a sensory thing? Like John, my little guy can't keep his suit on!! It IS a sensory thing! I agree it is a sensory thing as well. My little guy just copies his older brother
on that one. He wears speedo or jammers for swimming lessons and team
stuff. He wears longer board shorts which get lower and lower as they get
wet. I have noticed with nt/boys like my oldest son that a lot of the lowering
of the swim items/jeans/shorts is a social thing. The older they get, the
lower they want to wear them. In my son's high school, my son and his
friends like to wear womens jeans because they fit better ride lower.

For those of you with boys on the spectrum, I was wondering if they wear their swimsuits pulled up high.  My son with PDD-NOS pulls his trunks up way past his belly button.  He has a friend with Aspergers that also does this.  We spend a ton of time at the pool, and the other day I saw two other boys that had their trunks pulled up high.  It turns out that they have Aspergers!  Is it a sensory thing, or just a weird coincidence?  My NT son and all the other boys that I've noticed at the pool, wear their trunks low on their hips.  Not that this matters at all, I just thought it was interesting.
