ASD | Autism PDD

my son has pdd-now, and i just tell people he has autism, cause i don't feel the need to go into everything with EVERYBODY we meet.  My girls are autistic, but if we had had them evaluated when they were very young (between 2-3 or thereabouts) they would have probably gotten a PDD-NOS diagnosis.  The complete picture didn't become apparent until their language skills and drawing skills evolved enough that their obsessions and intense interests became apparent and that sealed the deal.

Just curious... Any of you with kids who were dx with pdd-nos now saying your kids have ASD? I get that this is the new umbrella term they are using for all the autism spectrum disorders so I was wondering if you think it makes explaining what your child's condition is any easier? BN has pdd-nos but she is on the cusp of being classified as autism because as she is getting older her cognitive delays are showing up as more severe. SHe is 6 and just recently had a Vinelan score that ranged from a social level of a 2 1/12 --4 yr. old. Still coming to terms with all that. Sometimes, I know she doesn't score well because there are things she says that are exceptionally bright and she has such a great long-term memory.

Thanks!
