Parent of teenager with PDD | Autism PDD

Hello everyone!  I am a parent of a 15 year old daughter with pervasive developmental disorder.  She has come such a long way thru the years.  She is no longer aggressive, and is such a loveable child.  She has just recently started the arm/hand flapping that most kids (I have heard) do at a younger age.  When she was alot younger she would bounce ( just like tigger) but that eventually stopped.  Anyone have any experience with teens doing this kind of behavior?

Thanks All!

Michelle:

I also have a daughter who is 15 and PDD-NOS.

My situation is the opposite.  She was never aggressive until about a year ago.  Before that she was always a sweet child.  It seem puberty has played a part in this.

The one thing I noticed is that you never know when a behavior will just pop up.  She been through different types of repetitve behaviors that suddenly start and then stop at some point.

Is your daughter on any medication?  We're playing the find the right medication game right now to try to control her aggression.

Thanks

Phyllis from NY

You never know which way puberty will take them.  Crossing my fingers that she will stay loveable for a long time.

My daughter does take medication.  She is on Abilify and Lexapro.  She has been on sooooooo many different types and combinations, but this one seems to working the best.

Thanks for the info.  Sounds like you have a wonderful daughter :)

She is a blessing.  And good luck with finding some meds to help.

I am so glad to have found someone else that can relate.

This might be old news to you, but I'll include a couple good checklists/charts about sensory issues just in case.

There's a topic on this forum called "Puberty resources" which you might be interested in.  Here's the link:

Good luck with everything.

Thanks so much!  I am always looking for more resources.  I will check them out.
