i also just started use visual scedules with my 5yr.pdd-nos son, and so far so good, he seems to like knowing what's going to happen that day. we also have a travel one that he takes with him when we leave so he doesn't forget.hope this helps.mom2carloWhat an awesome site Lesley!  I just had fun with the face game. :D  Also printed out a bunch of picture cards and will see what we can do with them.  I'm guessing Luke will just throw them around the house, but will try to manage things a bit.  Last night I attended a workshop about Sensory Integration and Visual Communication at a local Child care centre for children with special needs. I learnt last night that children escpecially with Autism understand a colour photo, than they do of an object or black and white photo. The lady who hosted the workshop said children with Autism only have 7% verbal, 38% vocal(intobation etc) and 55% Visuals. The group was told when doing this task have a finish box so the child knows that task is finish and have a task they really like to do and leave that till the end but they must complete other tasks as well. Do any of children use picture cards and if so how do you and your child find it when communicated escpecially if he/she is non verbal

MY son who is now 12 started out with colored picture cards.  they made his life easier because he always new what was coming next.  He would or could do the things  he wanted by doing the other first.  We did have an all done box.  I don't know if he would have made it though school with out this system  He has moved on to a written schedule because he can read.  The important thing is that they have a schedule and do know what is coming next.

I've been working on this with Jakob. Not getting very good results though. I've just been printing out pictures of things that he is interested in that I've taken with my digital camera. If it's something he wants, I try to get him to hand me the pic and then he gets it...I'm getting nowhere with this. He consistently just throws the picture in another direction and moans for what he wants. Hopefully he'll catch on soon...or else TELL me what he wants..that would be even better! hello im new here. I have a 5 yr old child with autistic spectrum disorder and we use visual clues/aids for him, they have to be a actual photograph as symbols for him mean nothing, we have found that this really helps him.

Can you buy them somewhere?

This site has them for Free.  Also...I seem to recall a thread here about visual schedules where a lot of people had good ideas....maybe do a search?
Good luck!!!
