Some good news! | Autism PDD

I feel like all I ever do here is complain or vent, so I thought I'd come and share some good news for a change!!

I posted about a week ago saying that I was starting to potty train my 4yo son.  I was frustrated because he would hold it until I left the room for one second and then he'd take the opportunity to pee on the floor, not even heading in the direction of the bathroom.  I honestly felt like he was NEVER EVER going to get the hang of it and he'd be starting school next week in diapers, yet again.

But on Friday, I realized that I just wasn't watching closely enough.  He has TONS of tell tale signs when he has to go potty.  I honed in on them too late on Friday but my dh and I stuck with him like white on rice during Sat and Sun.  Finally on Sunday, we got him to pee on the potty!  And also poo!!  We were ecstatic.  But I was afraid we'd have a relapse on Monday when dh went back to work and I was on my own.

I'm absolutely ecstatic to say that we've progressed even more!!  He hasn't had ANY accidents in 2 days and seems to really have the concept down now.  He's initiating by saying "potty" and running to the bathroom.  I help him on and he goes!  Can I just say how proud I am of him?  He's doing SOOOO well!

I also have 2.5 yo twin dd's (NT) and in 2 days one of the two is completely trained.  She also just says "potty" and we go in and she goes.  The other twin just doesn't have the bladder control yet as she's peeing every 20-30 minutes.  I'm going to give her another month or so and try again!

My goal is to have all 3 completely potty trained (during the day) but the end of the summer...and I'm off to a good start after only a week!!!!

Congratulations and may diapers soon become a DISTANT memory!!!

CONGRATULATIONS!  Your children are beautiful by the way!

That's great! Yay for potty trained! yayyyyyyy great job

That is so great !!!

Way to go !!!

Thank you so much!  No one really understands the obstacle of potty training a child on the spectrum except other parents of kids on the spectrum!  It's nice to come here and share this huge milestone!  Almost all of ds's friends from school have been potty trained for a year or more so I have no one IRL to really share this with!!  :)  Thanks again!!

Oh and Anna - thanks!  I really need to update that siggy!  Those photos are more than  months old!!
