Congrats on making headway. Good job Mom.
Today Jaron was officially diagnosed as having Autism. It's been a trying month. Between the peditrician and the psychiatrist... they don't see eye to eye. The Psychiatrist has him on 2 new medications... tenex and abilify. He's been on celexa for almost 2 years. The peditrician doesn't understand why he has him on these and wants to give it a month, see what's going on and possibily start wheening him off at least the tenex.
He says that there is nothing that's going to stop his pacing and noise making. That's just a autistic trait that we have to cope with. And to try and medicate him for the sake of school is wrong, (which I agree). He thinks there is no way Jaron should be in a mainstream classroom and is going to work hard on helping me get him into the Hope school. Hope school is a special education facility that works with all sorts of children, with a wide variety of issues.
I just feel like we are FINALLY getting on the right track... after 4 long years of feeling like a dog chasing my tail in circles. I can sigh a little sigh of relief for a moment. Today was monumental.
Angela, congratulations at last. Four years a is a long time to wait for a dx!
Best wishes on getting him into the school he needs -- I am sure he will do much better, and the pacing and noise making may very well begin to change over time!
Angela, I am glad you finally have a definate diagnosis.
Have you considered biomedical treatment for your son? Jaden used to make so much noise (screeching) that I couldn't take her anywhere. That was about 18 months ago. Soon after starting MB12 shots, getting her gut healthy and starting supplementation of the things she was deficient in, she stopped being so loud. She is no more annoying than a typical 3 yr old.
Might be worth a try to look into it.

I'll be honest, I have a lot of homework to do. I don't know much about autism at all. I have been doing some reading online and so forth. But I will have to look into what you're talking about cause I am clueless! LOL
The reason it took so long for the dx, in my opinion, was incompetent doctors. Honestly, all the few doctors he has been too wanted to talk about was bipolar disorder. This is because his father and grandfather are both bipolar. So, I was trusting in the doctors... but once we moved here to Florida and I took him to see the psychiatrist, that's when Autism came into play. In the short, one hour visit he was questioning why the doctor in Ohio was so fixated on bipolar. He insisted that Jaron was showing some very obvious classic autistic traits. So I went home, started reading and was blown away with how obvious it was. I still have NO CLUE why the doctor in Ohio didn't ever mention it.
