If it was put in my sons IEP to have an autistic mentor aid, can they then send me a letter in the mail saying that he now cant have it?Or do they have to follow by what they wrote in the IEP? If it's in the IEP, they have to provide....
By law they HAVE to follow what the IEP states. You need to follow up with a phone call. Good luck!
Don't just phone. Always put EVERYTHING in writing. After the phone call, send an email (which is automatically dated) to the person you spoke to, summarizing what was said. Keep it professional because you are starting a paper trail, which means this email might be used as evidence in the future, so don't assume only this person will read it. But be very clear about what the take-away message was in your phone conversation. You have grounds for a state complaint with that letter. A state complaint is not easy to file, so you should get the help of a seasoned advocate or lawyer, but you can also just threaten to file a state complaint and perhaps the school will cough up the agreed-upon Aide. OF course, the Aide must be in writing in the IEP already.
