aba or miller method | Autism PDD

I have never heard of the Miller method. Ask to see their scientifically based research on why it might work with your child, given her particular issues.  ABA has decades of research behind it. Of course, it's not all things to all kids, but so far it's the gold standard. I am pretty involved in the autism world and have been for 14 years.  Since I've never even heard of the "Miller Method," there must be a reason and I doubt it's a good one. If you get data on why this method works, please post it here. I, for one, would be very interested in expanding my knowledge about good methodologies.

My 3 1/2 year old daughter was diagnosed with Autism about a year and 1/2 ago. When she turned 3, our district had a preschool disabled program and she was enrolled.Unfortunately this school did not offer the one on one discrete trial ABA that she had been receiving thru Early Intervention. So since January 2007, she has been getting "Verbal Behaviour" which is useless because she is NONVERBALwww.millermethod.org I recently ran across an article that mentioned the miller method.  I also found a book on it at Barnes and Noble...just started it though.  I will skim it tonight and see what I can find out.

Our daughter was nonverbal and we did the verbal behavior/ABA program for 3 years to get her to not only speak fully but to understand language and she learned 1,000 of skills she would not of without the ABA teaching methods used.  I have never heard of Miller method even once whatsoever..be leary of programs that have no researched scientific backing.  ABA got my daughter to where she lost all her autism sx except social and she is doing mainstream first grade in aug..she just completed kindergarten with no supports and done amazing. Verbal behavior is totally based in getting language out of your child by discrete trials and errorless teaching...rewards for all attempts for utterances, grunts and molding them into words, sentences and language.  Research ABA and successes of it..it done more for my daughter than I ever dreamed possible!

Good luck!
