So, Donny's finally developing a sense of humour, and making up little
"jokes" all the time. I can't think of most of them, as they're really off the
wall. We wouldn't even realize they are jokes, except after he says
whatever
he says, he says "made a joke"
Here's an example that I actually found kind of funny, just because it's
very NT (albeit a much younger NT):
Don's playing video games right now, while I'm typing on my laptop. He
breaks wind (not uncommon, he's a gassy fellow!). Looks over his
shoulder at me and goes "ewwwww". I respond "yup, that was gross".
Don goes on "My bum made a stinky. Say 'Hello stinky bum'". I respond
"hello stinky bum", Don starts cackling, as this is apparently the funniest
thing ever, and tells me "made a joke". Then he launched into reciting
the full dialogue for a Huggies pullups commercial (something about they
feel cool when wet?).
My kid is such a nutbar
Very cute!
Mason does the same thing...he does have a silly sense of humor, but a lot of time the only reason I know he is trying to be funny is because he will say "I silly" after he does it, lol.
My teen has ruined my sweet angel in the bathroom humor dept. and Sarah has names for all her toots and tries to set them free on us constantly...it's embarrassing when you are in line at the store and your sweet little girl toots and and yells "oops! I did a big fella!"My son is starting to make up jokes, too. They're supposed to be plays on words, but he doesn't really get the concept, so he just throws in a made-up word and acts as if it's hilarious (kind of a fake laugh).
I found a sponge bob jokebook at a garage sale recently, and it's exhausting to read, explaining all the jokes, but it is probably a worthwhile endeavour.
Understanding that something is supposed to be funny is after all an important first step. I remember my NT sister laughing when I read comic strips for her when she was a kindergartener. She didn't know why it was funny, but she knew she was supposed to laugh. It's a normal part of development.
That is so cute! Skylar has an awesome sense of humor. He hasn't started making the jokes yet, but will announce to the world when he has, in his own little words "hey mommy, I FARTED" and just laughs like there is no tomorrow.
